In january february 2010 I joined an astonishing trekking in the Jammu Kashmir region in the most northern part of India. It is called the Zanskar Frozen River Trek or as the locals call it the Chaddar. The trekking is only possible a few weeks a year when the ice is thick enough to walk the 240 kilometres on the river from Leh to Zanskar and back.
With an altitude of 3.500 metres and temperatures below 30 degrees at night the conditions are harsh and it is strenuous. But this is fully compensated by the stunning landscape and its amazing people. Check the site of our guides, Tenzin London en Mingyur: www.tibetantrail.com
