So.... we've finally got round to booking our train ticket to Kerala! Or more specifically Cochin/Kochi.... so yes we leave on Thursday evening at 11pm and get into Kochi at around 3pm on Friday afternoon. Looking forward to experiencing an Indian train journey, although we've somewhat spoilt ourselves by deciding to go for a 2 tier AC carriage which should be bearable hopefully! Anyway we've stayed in 2 hostels since my last post, but owned by the same guy - one with a prison theme in Anjuna and one with a jungle theme in Vagator (quite literally) with all sorts of bugs and amphibians crawling all over..!! And that is the place we're at now. We've been exploring the coast - Arambol, Baga, Anjuna and Vagator on a scooter that the prison hostel rented out to ... read more

Yeah, for us it’s our family get together. I (Sajid) rode a black Classic 350cc whereas Manu & Felix switched seats on their green Classic 500cc. It was the amalgamation of three bodies into a single soul & a mind that we took off one fine morning from our homes, geared ourselves up, fueled our tanks ... read more

I have now reached India, must say I have mixed feelings about this place... Arrived n Mumbai early on Thursday morning and after the very well organised and clean Abu Dhabi it was to say the least the opposite. Very big, loud and less clean. It took me a day to find my way around and really haggle for a 'fair' price. Don't miss understand, I still got ripped off but at least I knew it.The people are friendly though. Much to my disapointment I have not had any stommach problems and I had prepared myself for a good 'Dheli-belly' by putting on a few pounds.... Well, I still have two month to go maybe I can eat some icecream to take care of that. Everything is very relaxed so as soon as you actually want ... read more

I spent my final few days in Palolem hanging out with my friends - easting, drinking, teaching them draughts, and going for the occasional swim in the sea, which for me is very rare. On my final morning in Palolem I also managed to catch up with Marc, who had arrived the previous night in Patnam. After some breakfast Marc offered me a lift on the back of his bike up to Madgaon so I could catch my train to Thivim without having to spend two hours on the bus first. Before long I was racing down winding Goan lanes, with a surprisingly warm breeze through my hair. Even at high speeds it seems the Goan air is hot and humid. I was worried the Police might pull us up for me not wearing a helmet, ... read more

A Cockoach... I detained a rogue cockroach which fell from somewhere above my head in my 'bath' room - admittedly, I had to warn my forgetful morning self that there was a cockroach underneath the tupperware pot (another handy use for it) by sticking a post-it note on the wall nearby simply saying COCKROACH! This room has been the first for ants however, which I don't like in great quantities, so I acquired some insect spray and fumigated the room one evening. There were no more ants. The other irritation is the mosquito crew. If you're quick enough to keep all doors and windows closed, it's pretty safe to sleep without a mosquito net, but if one gets in the room, you'll get got. If you're sitting outside between 5 and 7pm without mosquito repellant, the ... read more

Friday - Day 16 Because i didn't go to the cente yesterday, I went in for a bit today but didn't stay for lunch. Kelly came round in the morning and we got to the centre at around 11am. The dogs had already been walked so I went in to see some of the shyer, sadder doggies. My main focus today was on one dog who in previous days had not wanted to come out at all. He'd sit and wag his tail while making little whinging noises, but he wouldn't actually come out when it came down to it. I'd managed to tempt him out a few metres the other day, so I was determined to get him to go further today. Today, it was like he was talking to me - a half whinge, ... read more

Wednesday - Day 14 As my bag was packed and I'd had an early night, I woke up naturally at 7am and got to my new place at 8.30am! A new recod for me! Maybe it was because I was excited about the FRIDGE! Cold drinks, fruit, milk for cereal - what a grand idea! Because I was early, Vijander wasn't there as he'd got up at 6am to go to Mapusa! I sat and waited and whilst doing so, met two people who worked at the guest house for 'Uncle', one woman who swept up all the leaves and dust nearby, plus her husband. Some birds in the trees caught my ears. They made the weirdest bird song I've ever heard, which sounded like a sample of some computer bleeps! They also did a little ... read more

The laptop decided to fix itself! Even though I poured possibly the most corrosive substance known to man into the keyboard of my computer which caused it to stop working, I took the battery out, dried it off for a couple of days and now, pretty much back to new! I am so lucky and I am very very grateful to whoever/whatever was responsible for this as I can now type my blog with ease as I was before I was an idiot! The R key sometimes sticks though and the ipod's lost all its music in the process although still appears to be there... I just can't get to it!! So, to catch up on the last few days, here's what I've been up to... Wednesday - day 7 Kelly and I had arranged to ... read more

Some random updates: One of my dreads has nearly fallen out. It's one that sits in the middle of one pf my ponytails before I tie them up into a massive dread heap on my head. It's hanging on by a few strands of hair now and is going to fall out at some point. I shall sew it back in to my hair with my crochet hook when I get the chance and can be bothered to remember. I have been 'bitten' by mosquitoes approximately twnety times since being in India. It's inevitable that one will get 'bitten' even whilst using insect repellant. I use 95% deet and although they don't come near me when i have it on, it is quite toxic. I accidentally got a tiny droplet of spray on my lip once ... read more

Day 4. Tomorrow was most definitely another day! I got up early after sleeping realy badly and got to IAR at 9am ish. I took a few dogs for walks, most of them really sweet but some didn't want to go out at all. Some of the were so scared, it makes you wonder what had happened to them. One doggie didn't want to walk... as soon as I got to its cage, it looked really happy and excited, but once I'd got inside with it and was trying to put the lead around its neck, it shyed away, sat down and wouldn't get up again even though its tail was wagging and it looked really happy. A lady called Sue told me that she usually picks it up and goes and sits with it outside ... read more
