Sailboat
I want to be ON that boat! Palolem Beach, 3 hours south of Baga, is perhaps the most idyllic postcard retreat you could imagine. We originally planned to rent motorbikes to get there but after the rental guy watched me test drive it in the parking lot, he refused. Apparently, according to Nicole, the man was wiping the sweat from his brow, shaking his head, and announcing "No, no, no, she will not take that on the roads." So we took a cab instead.
Our taxi ride left our stomachs churning which we have now learned to expect. But as soon as we saw the beach, we remembered why we had trekked so far away from civilization. No horns, no crowds, no perverts, no trinket shops, no filth, just miles of palm trees, beach huts, and ocean. Yay! We hung up the mosquito net in our primitive little beach hut, took twenty steps to the left and our toes were officially in the ocean. Conversation immediately began regarding the possibility of extending our stay in Goa.
Late night exploration of the coastline led us to a secluded beach hut community with an endless flight of crumbling stairs leading up a cliff, down several pathways, past a

I know it's just like the last one but look how beautiful!! cliffside restaurant, right to the entrance of India's first "Silent Noise" headphone party. The all night outdoor party featured partiers of various stages of sobriety as well as cleanliness, many of whom were dancing to the beats provided by the DJ via wireless headphones, hence the "Silent Noise." Palolem is very committed to preserving their reputation as a peaceful getaway from annoying late-night bass bumping and high-pitched party screams. Wanting some peace ourselves, we stayed just long enough to snap some shots of the laser lights, hula hoopers, and fire dancers, then returned to Hut #7 for some night night.
The next couple of days we spent rotating between reading (Nicole and I bought boot legged copies of Holy Cow from a wandering book vendor), sipping watermelon daiquiris under our umbrella, and floating on our inflatable rafts. Michelle and I hit up about five hundred different beach stands before we found a young boy willing to give us a good deal on three rafts, AND he blew them up for us too. I haven't floated on a raft in the ocean since I was in Kauai with my family, the summer of 1989. There's just something very unintimidating about
Palolem Beach
This could steal me away forever. the water here. The three of us held on to each other, forming an inflatable triangle and just chilled on our giant water bed forever. I already miss it.
The three of us held on to each other again that night, under the mosquito net, violating Palolem's anti-high pitched screaming mantra, as a giant flying cockroach tried to kill us.
Plans to stay in Palolem were confirmed when Nicole sprained her ankle coming down the janky stairs of our beach hut the following afternoon. Thankfully, there was a decent hospital nearby and she got her foot wrapped and is now on crutches. For about 24 hours we were all very unsure of what to do; there was discussion of coming home early (not my idea), staying in Palolem the remaining ten days, splitting up, filing a lawsuit against the Hi-Tide Beach Hut architect, but we ultimately decided to stay together and continue down south to Kerala as planned. We did miss our flight and had to buy three new tickets, but we got front of the line passes everywhere we went because of Nicole's hobble. When we landed in Kochi, she was carried down the airplane stairs on
It's Alive
Nicole's pretty shell almost bit her. her wheelchair throne which I thought was hysterical. After one night in Kochi, we will head further south to Kollam and from there I will write more. Goodnight and see you all very soon!
