Greetings from the Goan Sea.... We're currently bobbing up and down in the waves, looking out onto massive stretches of palm trees and beaches, sipping coconut fenny and scorching our bald spots. Goa is as you would expect, pretty close to paradise, apart from the awful tourist resort down the road which is crammed to the brim with fat English tourists. The trip here was a mixture of emotions. Waking up at ungodly hours to catch trains, passing through Delhi and Mumbai - Delhi kind of ok, and Mumbai utterly fascinating - sweating our socks off. Stuff is cheap, Tandoori fish a particular highlight. Coconut Fenny (a kind of spirit) a close second. Mopeds are plentiful, can you believe we're actually braving the Indian roads! You pick it up after a while, just beep at anything ... read more

From Delight we came into existence. In Delight we grow. At the end of our journey’s close, Into Delight we retire. From: The Upanishads We arrived back in Ft Cochin the town that has no cows but instead goats wandering about in sweltering heat, and ran around to 2 places we wanted to return to, for shopping and lunch. Our group gathered once again at Malabar Restaurant for our final dinner and some white glove service without the gloves, it was 110 degrees! Keri made a cute little speech in award format, repeating all our inside jokes. Frank got a sitar lesson from the band and tried to make some noise that didn’t sound bad. After we slowly said goodbye, cause we really didn’t want to leave, so we hope it isn’t goodbye but see you ... read more

India is a very funny place for us to get used to but the aspects that sticks out the most are the practices and ideals surrounding cleanliness. People devote a lot of time to keeping the environment clean here. Sweeping the streets and alleys, washing dust and grime off of everything and shoveling up cow pies. It is in some ways a very clean place and in others very very gross. I try to be non judgmental but when i see folks burning garbage in giant piles or shitting on floors they shower on, as well as wiping floors with cloths that are moved by their feet then in turn used for my dinner table, i cannot help but get a little irked. Indians destroy their bathrooms. Yes that is a generalization and its true! For ... read more

Arriving in Anjuna had already been a little eventful and with cuts, hangover and hunger kicking-in, it was time to find ourselves a new home. Anjuna is far north and a rather backpacker destination so this was a little harder than we anticipated. Walking along the beach in midday heat with a huge packpack is exhausting, especially when you have no idea where the beach huts are as your book of shit is the most unhelpful guide a girl could have. At this point, Gail was feeling pretty rough and sent Nikki off to hunt down beds. Luckily after turning down the huts with no locks and an open window, she found a little gem called Radha Guest House run by Ganesh-camp and cute fellow. Little did we know that our time in the pretty hut ... read more

Our stay at Goa was rather overshadowed by lots and lots of monsoonal rain. At one time we couldn't leave the place where we were staying (with friends of Pete) to go out and get food. We did brave it a couple of times and got wet right through to every last bit of clothing. Not that bad really as it still wasn't cold. I would like to go back to Goa out of the monsoon season as I believe the place really comes alive. There are some lovely palm fringed beaches and lots of interesting old buildings in the old part of town.... read more
