The trip has begun... Hong Kong was Kevin's idea. Hong Kong is Chinatown on steriods...it is hot, and smells of foods. The temperature was usually about 34 C during the day, and didn't fall below 28 C at night, which made us happy to have air conditioning in the hotel room...And let's talk about the hotel room...after much deliberation and looking at various hotels on line, we settled on the Best Western Harbor View on Hong Kong Island. We felt we were playing it safe with a western hotel, but we found it interesting that room sizes were given, in all the hotels we looked at...and with good reason. These rooms are SMALL. But I have to say it is a very productive use of space. I think the rooms are geared for the average-sized Asian ... read more

Hong Kong June 25, through June 28 I considered calling this blog “In Search of Suzy Wong”, but let's face it at my age I'm in bed by nine o'clock and there's little chance of sampling the night life Hong Kong has on offer. I had lived in China Town, Los Angeles for six months before settling in Russell, New Zealand and certainly feel that I am some what of a Dim Sum gourmet; if there is such a thing! It was my idea to stop in Hong Kong on our way to Paris and Caroline didn't put up too much of a fight. While on board our Cathay Pacific flight we purchased a return train to the airport combined with a day Hong Kong metro pass. US $38 per person and well worth the price; ... read more

HONG KONG DISNEYLAND! Going to Disneyland was a magical dream which eventually came true. I was able to celebrate my 17th birthday in Hong Kong Disneyland last 2014. Yes, it was my first time to go to Disneyland. Oh! It was wonderful!!! (REALLY!) From the very cute train going there, to the unique entrance ticket, to the exciting gate, to the stunning Mickey Mouse statue who is wake boarding, to every step inside Disneyland. The music was nostalgic. Every step inside gave me chills and butterflies. Everything was beautiful. Everything was exciting. Everything was breathtaking. Looking around, you will be able to see different shows and rides with different genres or based from different Disney movies. You can watch The Golden Mickeys which features different Disney movie or series characters and narrates a very entertaining story ... read more

March 19th 2015 - Last big bang and good bye to Hong Kong.. It has been 3 months since I said good bye to Hong Kong and moved back to the USA. My peers and employees and friends sent me out in style. From a fun filled last lunch in the office and a lovely group picture of the Team with nice good bye notes on the picture- it is proudly hanging up in my cube in Boston now. The original game plan for the final good night party was to start on the roof deck bar of IFC and then bar hop our way thru the Mid Levels - needless to say - we did not move or leave from the roof deck until the bar closed and we were nicely asked to move it ... read more

So.....one of our great vacations together was Hong Kong! We met Joy at the airport and created so many great memories (mostly at Disneyland haha) One of my fondest memories was when we were in Toy Story land! I met my future husband (haha) as the awesome guys in green! We had fun on the slinky ride (that to this very day, we still think is for smaller children) and we had an awesome time in the store. Like when you tested this awesome Rex the dinosaur hat........ And then we both realised that you were wearing the hat wrong all along haha And here we are on our first ride together in Hong Ko... read more

One thing that immediately caught our attention in Hong Kong was where we were staying. We mentioned that we were staying in a budget hotel (with that ignorant man) but this hotel was actually located on the 16th floor in the 2nd block of the building. There were 5 blocks altogether. The place we refer to is the notorious Chungking Mansions. When reading reviews on the place we had booked, we stumbled across a comment that said the whole building was overrun by Indians and Africans and was "unsafe". We thought such comment was judgemental in the "over-run" bit but also unquantified by the "unsafe" part as they failed to justify this. One thing they were right about was the mix of races and nationalities here and it had us fascinated. Its true there were many ... read more

Stepping outside into the streets of Hong Kong, huge smiles formed across our faces. We were hit by the bright neon signs and tried to take in the tall buildings that surrounded us. The many pedestrian shoppers, cars and the brightly coloured cabs that created a functioning but chaotic scene on the wide streets. Everything moved; people, traffic, shop sellers, shoppers, people going to and from work. Everything. Everything had a purpose, a direction and we stood there completely out of place trying to take in our surrounds. Wow! We liked the feel of it. The city was alive and it only grew as the day drew into night... ...Before that moment however we arrived in Hong Kong at stupid o'clock in the morning (due to our cheaply booked 2am flight) we quickly exited the huge ... read more

Hong Kong! I'd wanted to visit Hong Kong for a long time with a window seat was really hoping to get a glimpse of the city as we flew in. But the weather had other ideas! We dipped in and out of low cloud which meant we got only small glimpses of the city as we descended. Damn, I guess I'd have to wait for those epic skyscraper views! We arrived late in the morning and after a night flight was really grateful to our hotel in Kowloon for allowing us to check in early so we could grab a couples of hours sleep before exploring. And our explore started with food! In a great little place called Good Hope Noodles, I sampled my first taste of Hong Kong with friend noodles topped with spicy pork ... read more

My flight out of Tashkent made a long stop in Almaty, Kazakhstan. About nine hours later my next flight departed towards Hong Kong. My left knee was still hurting until my second day in Hong Kong, then I was able to walk normally again. Hong Kong was given back to China by the UK in 1997 and enjoys a separate status from mainland China with a high degree of autonomy. Hong Kong is small, just 1104 sq. km (2.5 the size of Curaçao) but has more than 7 million people. It’s a very modern city and an important financial and trading hub in Asia. I came to Hong Kong again as a stop-over to my next destination. In November 2007 I spent one whole day in Hong Kong on my way towards Australia, but this time ... read more
