Dear all, Yes, Christmas in Hong Kong for the fourth time in five years. By now, it is a familiar routine I have fallen into; part festive celebration, part family gatherings and part Hong Kong things I like to do. Not that it all went predictably. Arriving at Hong Kong airport early morning on Christmas Eve, it was onto the A43 bus to Fanling, my old hometown deep in the New Territories. Then it was straight out to lunch with Mum at a new dim sum place at Green Code Plaza with so-so food and poor service. Sterling may have laughably lost value thanks to Brexit – this time last year it was about HK$12 in the pound, now it's less than ten – but Hong Kong bargains still abound if you know where to look. ... read more

Midnight, Auckland International Airport: the place to be when you are grabbing a budget 2 a.m. flight to Hong Kong. My friend had done most of the planning, regardless of the fact that I am trained in travel/tourism and may have been the better person to do so. Leading up to the trip, I had been stressed which set off what my family calls my ‘Sjogren’s Cough’. It is a truly annoying dry cough that can hang round for months. It showed up the same time my HK currency did and never left, even though the currency quickly did. I knew my infamous cough could be a problem as HK and China were dealing with the Bird Flu and a cough was a symptom. But having autoimmune diseases meant I was armed with a medical kit ... read more

And we're back!!! Whatever it is they say, HK still has that special spot in me. I don't care about the mad rush of the season, the traffic and the swarm of people. I mind going back to those places I've been to in the past, nor buy the same merch I did some 4 years ago. And I will never stop coming back....The only difference this time is that its Christmas. And this is the first time that we will be out of our turf this time of the year. It was a very good experience spending Christmas abroad. I really don't mind....as long as I'm with family. Next year....will try Seoul or Tokyo perhaps :).... read more

Two weeks until Christmas Eve! Val and I had plans to spend the weekend in Hong Kong. The company we work for was throwing a Christmas Party on Friday the 23rd and we needed a dress. Our plan was to go to Disney on the Saturday as the Christmas decorations were up and I'd never seen Disney at Christmas. Then spend Sunday dress shopping. So the Saturday comes around and we leave later than we planned but that's ok. We get to Disney around lunch time so we still have a while. We look through the shops, secretly buying each other Christmas presents. We go on a few rides, one we didn't have time to do on my birthday weekend so now we had completed all of the rides.I met Pooh Bear and Eyeore. Pooh Bear ... read more

On the first day of our holiday we'd left home by 7:30am and flew out of Sydney Airport around midday after some minor frustrations and delays in the morning. We had a very successful 9 hour flight to Hong Kong. Poor Roman looks pretty banged up with scratches & scabs on his nose and forehead after his spectacular fall the night before we flew out. Nick & Alicia had been hoping for a good easy leg of travel for the kids (Lucy 5.5 and Roman 3.5) and sure enough with lunch, dinner, the odd trips to visit Grandma & Grandpa in the seats in front of us, a good deal of movies, and some gaming on their tablets the kids got through the flight without a hitch. Nick was horrified during the flight when upon ordering ... read more

Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday to me. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love Disney. I've been to Disney Land Paris eight times and this weekend would be my first trip to Hong Kong Disneyland. Changing out of our Minnie Mouse outfits and putting normal clothes on (though where we were going, our costumes perhaps would be more ‘normal’) Val and I left for Hong Kong straight after Halloween day at work. We had booked a Disney hotel for the Saturday night and had thought we had somewhere booked for Friday but during the day we received an email telling us our stay had been cancelled. We still have no idea why. We arrive in Hong Kong not knowing the area and having no where to stay. We try a handful of places ... read more

Big Buddha, is a world apart and completely different to all the other places I have seen in my previous travels. At first, Big Bouddha, is a sacred place. This gigantic statue is placed at the top of a mountain, which also offers a wonderful view of all the other surrounding mountains. It is placed here to dominate and protect the area, I guess. ... read more

Hong Kong isn't just a simple worldwide metropolis, it is also a group of beautiful islands! In fact, 70% of Hong Kong territory belongs to the nature; National parks, mountains, forests, beaches, etc.. I started by visiting the city before discovering wonderful beaches! Je vous propose donc ce petit sommaire: I decided to write down a little summary for you: Central The Peak Victoria ... read more

I've missed home a lot but I'll miss China too. Everyone has been having Starbucks so I had it for the first time on this trip and it's all right. We have all had a good trip and I have really enjoyed China. Going to the Great Wall was a highlight. Eating different food has been interesting. Chinese people have so little but are SO happy. Now I can't wait to get home. I miss my family lots and my pets and it's time for new things and new experiences. I want to see more of the world and do new things but for now it is time to go home to see everyone and enjoy being home again. I hope to come back to China and go to new places in the future. So Goodbye ... read more

It's been a packed two days so far in Hong Kong. I made it to the flight in Frankfurt right on time thank goodness, but I slept maybe an hour and a half on the 11 hour flight. It's cool though because I had quite possibly the world's best breakfast on the descent. Was I delirious from lack of sleep, water, and clean air? Maybe, but I don't care! Loved that breakfast, Cathay Pacific. Keep it up! Immigration and public transportation were surprisingly a breeze. The trains and buses really could not be easier. As my tour guide Mandy said, it's impossible to get lost here. I was a little turned around when I was trying to find the hostel in the rain without internet, but that's the only thing. Unfortunately the room wasn't ready until ... read more
