Mount Isa to Hong Kong

After a quick tour from Isa to Townsville, Dysart, Nambour and Brisbane it was off to Hong Kong and the craziness of Kowloon

The trip down on the tram was quite an experience and almost vertical!

Mount Isa to Hong Kong Kung Hei Fat Choi! (happy and prosperous New Year - rough translation)

We have had a great time in Hong Kong and have sampled a good selection of Hong Kong life. It was definitely a change from laid-back and lightly populated Mount Isa to the intensity of Hong Kong!

We have enjoyed staying in Kowloon despite the frequent cries of hawkers for "tailor made suit for you?" and "copy handbag? wallet? watch?” We had a Hong Kong Island tour with a very funny guide who ended pretty much every sentence with "or somefing like that" and gave us an insight on the high cost of living and real estate in Hong Kong where they pay for houses by the square foot and it can cost millions.

The views in Hong Kong have been a bit disappointing due to the daily "mist/ fog" which I think is the tourism way to say "smog" as it's been the same every day! No one seems to mind though and they get about the serious business of shopping - day and night! Our digital camera broke again but I guess if it was going to happen this is the perfect place and we picked up a new one today with heaps of extras which was very reasonably priced.

After some initial hurdles working out the technology we have mastered the MTR or Mass Transit Railway and even managed the multiple line changes to get to Hong Kong Disneyland for the day on the Disneyland train complete with mouse ear shaped windows! It would be an awesome experience if you were a kid but most of the rides were a little too PG for our liking.

We managed to time our trip completely by accident over the Chinese New Year holiday so we have seen a massive fireworks display and some very cool dances and displays.

Mick has proven his adventurous streak with the local cuisine trialing the local delicacies such as fish balls (imagine chewy dough with a fish flavour), eating entire jumbo king prawns including the head, and ordering a meal including deep fried pigeon (head included on the tray)on Valentine's Day.

We saw this billboard and wondered how the "made in Denmark" didn't give away the Carlsberg as not Aussie!
