Saturday morning, Kelly & Cali headed back to Shenzhen as Pete & Martin came over the border to meet up with Staci and I. The four of us first went to another hostel to check in for the night.
Us girls got to stay at YesInn which is a pricier hostel in Hong Kong but also the most modern of them all that we have stayed in. But we have been staying at another hostel on Hong Kong Island for cheaper, so we made the switch for the 2nd night.
We then head to Just Salad, a restaurant, which Martin and Staci have raved about and we hadn't been to yet. We got to either chose a salad or a wrap. The little things we miss in Mainland China. After we enjoyed lunch we headed to the ferry terminal and spent the rest of Saturday exploring Lamma Island, another part of HK that we'd never been to.
It's a pedestrian only island, and really beautiful. We took the ferry to one side, hiked and enjoy the island for about 2.5 hours and ended up on the other side and then took a different ferry back to the main
Hong Kong Island where we then ate more Indian food, drank a beer & went to bed.
Sunday, the four of us headed out for a typical Hong Kong breakfast, McDonald's. It seems most of the time we eat breakfast there but have NEVER eaten breakfast at McDonald's in Mainland China. Hmm I wonder why that is?
We were doing one more 'new' thing-- going to the horse races at the Hong Kong Jockey Club! Martin and Staci had never been to horse races anywhere, and we had only been to the Del Mar horse races many times over our years in San Diego. We didn't win any money, but that's okay. Staci did pick the winner for one race, but Martin didn't take her advice and didn't bet on it.
It was probably our second to last weekend in Hong Kong, a place that has been our second home for the year! We'll be flying out of there along with Staci and Martin on a United flight on July 6th. yes we are on the exact same flight and have chosen our seats to be by each other. Started China together and Ending China together.
Other than that, life here is just winding down and we're definitely feeling the crazy mixed emotions of sadness and excitement for our return. We started teaching new classes this week and Pete has decided to let the students watch movies the remainder of the year and I am teaching lessons. This week is American Slang, next week is Chinglish and then a game the last week and goodbyes.
Our new classes are fun since we have taught both sections of Senior 1 and now both sections are mixed up into Science and Art. Some students I have seen since January before we went to Australia and New Zealand and still remember their face but not their name. As I start class I tell them how we only have 3 Oral English classes left and they all are very sad.
I am kinda(slang for kind of that is in my lesson this week ok back to my idea) sad yet happy this year is coming to an end but I will save all those emotions for another blog.
We found out Monday that our last day of teaching will be June 3rd for me and June 4th
I am taller than this digger
Digger is what my nephews call this machine for Pete, I don't teach Friday's with our new schedule and he does so that is the difference in days. We then will fly to Xi'an Friday, June 4th in the afternoon and return Tuesday night June 8th. We have to be out of our apartment by June 9th. Lots of wrapping up to do and saying goodbyes.
Shout out to Staci as I took some of her blog to help write mine....
