July 15-25, 2002. Our first family out-of-the-country vacation. Kelvin is just a little over 2 years old. We flew to HongKong via Singapore Airlines (and costed us dearly!, no budget airlines yet) and stayed at The Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay. Upon arrival, we took a shuttle bus going to HongKong Island. It was roughly an hour trip going there. We checked in, unpacked some of the things and headed out to see what HongKong has to offer. First stop was a park near the hotel. It is located in the middle of the busy streets of Causeway Bay. We let Kelvin play and run around. Then we headed to the Central area via MTR. Had dinner at Jollibee. Yep! it was in our itinerary. We haven't had a dose of chicken joy for almost a ... read more

Arrived after our 14hour flight that just seemed to go for ever. Aido got food sick from the airplane food which didnt get things off to a healthy start. Being jetlagged, it was tough being thrown into the middle of a very humid Hong Kong. Hundreds of people running around with hardly a space to move. Some of them wearing the Michael Jackson sars type mask trying to dodge every germ that that was in the air. After a bit of sleep everything got easier. First thing was to sort out our remaing vaccines which we got from the nearest hospital. Although they were eyeing up my lung, liver & other organs as if they could be fobbed off on the black market here. Sights we visited while here. Central District - the buildings were funkin ... read more

1964 Diary Entry "The next day we got up, got dressed and went down to have breakfast. That morning a Mr Sung picked us up as he was going to show us round Hong Kong. First we went to the car ferry where we drove the car on board. Then we got out of the car and went down to the front of the ferry. By the way that day was Buddha's birthday. On the front of the ferry we saw a Chinese junk with lots of colourful flags on it. I took a photo of this particular junk. A couple of minutes later we arrived in Hong Kong. There we drove off the ferry and Mr Sung took us to the Tiger Balm Gardens. These gardens are really fascinating. In the middle of them there ... read more

1964 Diary Entry "The next morning we got up and got dressed and then we went down and had breakfast. We then went shopping and Mum and Dad bought quite a few things. After shopping we went back to the hotel for lunch. After lunch Dad took me over to Hong Kong island on a ferry. Over at Hong Kong I took my first photo on the trip. When we were walking up one street we saw some street musicians. One was playing a xylophone and the other one was playing a mandolin. The one with the mandolin came over to us and Dad gave him twenty cents. We walked halfway back to the ferry and the rest of the way we went in a rickshaw. We then went back to Kowloon where we caught a ... read more
