Today draws a close to my trip to Hong Kong. My family and I take the Airport Express - superb speedy/silent train with great connections to the inner city and within the airport - and then fly to Beijing. The changing sky was extraordinary to capture as it was to admire, right next to it.... read more

Woo hoo!!! I've arrived! Just a very quick note to let you all know that i've arrived ok and everything is going well! Having a fab time. Been out sightseeing like a proper tourist with my camera, and also bought some jewlery... already! :o) One really big bummer tho... it hasn't stopped raining since I arrived on wednesday evening! Think I must have jinxed the place with Manchester weather! I tell you, i haven't had chance to dry out yet! But have now invested in a brolly like the locals! EVERYONE has one... think of a busy rush hour london, and then give all those people umbrellas,... that's kinda what it's like (but with more neon lights!) However, I don't seem to have mastered the technique of carrying a brolly effectively, i think it may be ... read more

Took a walk around Central. Went to the Bank of China with mom, and then went to Jusco to go shopping on the other side of the island. Ended the day with a return to our room at the Regal Hotel, which is covered with marble Roman statues at the lobby, gilded railings and walls that are made of oil paintings. Loved the view from our room. Just in our room alone, there were 4 oil paintings. I can't even begin to think of how much the hotel put into all this visual luxury..... read more

Before the British left HK they used the huge surplus of tax receipts to build the biggest man made island in the world and upon it the most technically advanced airport I’ve ever seen. The airport and equally impressive train shuttle provides a great introduction to this amazing city where east and west collide. The world may be littered with examples British Empire faux pas but this is an unequivocal success. ……. HK quasi Britishness (Right hand drive double decker busses even the ‘please mind the gap’ women is here) is going to make the transition into China easy I’ve slowly gotten used to getting round this city - on foot it’s a case of navigating 100’s of escalators and elevated walkway, taxis are plentiful and cheap, the subway an air conditioned breeze and the trams ... read more

After my July in Thunder Bay, Ontario, my family and I flew to Hong Kong for a few days. We stayed at The Excelsior, a 5-star hotel, although I found the lobby a little small. We went to the Central's Grand Millennium Plaza - a garden amidst the urban - and then to Pacific Place.... read more

We are now in Hong Kong and getting ready to leave tomorrow by plane for Chengdu. The past few days we have been exploring Hong Kong and spending a lot of time at family functions, some of which had over 40 people. We attended a high school graduation in which my (Jeff) grandfather spoke and they honored his brother. It was great to meet some of the students and to see a bit of what their school life was like, hear their school band play, feel their excitment about moving forward, and listen to their appreciation for those who had helped them to do so. We also went to a hospital to see a heart and stroke center that my family has been involved with, and I got an ultrasound of my intracranial arteries, exposing the ... read more

Hello from Hong Kong! We are having a great time here. More on Hong Kong and Xi'an later. We leave for Hainan tomorrow. We have decided to upload all of our photos to www.snapfish.com. You can also buy photos for 12 cents each. This method will be way quicker for posting. We will continue to write in this blog and upload some pictures here. If you want to view our photos email us for the snapfish password. Sorry that they are out of order (we are combining both of our photos together), and are unedited, uncensored and unlabeled. But its all there for you to see if you wish. Love, Kaley and Jeff... read more
