New CITY, New COUNTRY, New CONTINENT! After a month and some in Aussie and NZ, we finally made it to Hong Kong. It took 13 odd hours of flying (from Sydney to Singapore and then on to HK), but we finally made it at about 11:30pm on Saturday 11/05. Here, we must note the quality of air travel on Singapore Airlines. On a jam packed 747 we experienced the pinnacle of inflight service- and for no extra charge. There was staff aplenty with hot towels before and after both of the meals. Wine, cocktails, beer - all complimentary. The best part was the individual LCD screens in the seat backs that allowed you to choose from any of sixty movies at any time. We both watched three movies and this made the 10-hour leg from Sydney ... read more

Hello Everyone!! Well we have been in Hong Kong for five days now and we're leaving to head to Singapore tomorrow morning! Had an amazing few days here and i would so recommend it to anyone! So here's mostly what crazy shenanigans we got up to..... 1) The flight!! Perhaps the most depressing part of my journey so far was after thinking we had been on the plane for ages we realised we were only 5 hours through our mammoth 12 hour flight! Not good! Though the flight was cool. Not too sure why our pleas to get moved into first class or even premium economy were ignored though! My mild flirtation with the stewardess for champagne was also a failure! Error! Highlight of the flight was the crazy chinese air stewardess esther who when asked ... read more

Made it to Hong Kong after quite a long 8 hour flight from Brisbane. The area is very vibrant and exciting. We've a very nice room on the 25th floor, with a great view over the water and to Kowloon. In the "full text" area, scroll down and look at some of the photos, and also look at the new set in the "gallery" area. ... read more

Hong Kong, cant help but be awed looking at that skyline; we took the bus from Yangshao, 11 hours and a very nice travel gift provided by the bus company. A jar of spicy bean curd, I'm saving mine for a very special occasion. Kowloon, the peninsular section of Hong Kong is where a group I travelled with from Yangshao set me up. A huge designer store on every corner, copy Rolex touts filling the streets, and never ending phone, camera, video game stores. Chaos but with manners. Its the seedier part of Hong Kong, would be a bugger in the hot season as its almost all concrete but the subway station is so huge you can nearly walk to the other side of the peninsula underground, nice but easy to get lost. The area behind ... read more

We didn't spend a lot of time in Hong Kong this time around. The fews days that we spent there were filled with family dinners and wedding related activities (Not Bunny's wedding!). We did a little bit of shopping but were actually very disappointed in what was available. Not being a typical "Sale" period (last time we went just after Xmas - whoo weee the sales were good!) while the prices were generally good there weren't the awesome deals. We had tons of fun riding around on the MTR and mocking the recorded messages (...Please get off the F** train... Please mind the gap...). This was more a family-oriented rest stop for our exciting adventures in China. ... read more

Oh My GOD! I'm in Hong Kong! Holy Shite! This is the maddest thing ever! I'm sat in the beautiful sun, staring up at the most humongous sky scrapers you could ever imagine! It's a really, really lovely place. The people are so friendly and it's so unbelievably British, I feel oddly at home! Have bought an Octopus, which should come in handy getting around the city. The plane journey over here was really painful, but I was sat next to Robin and his wife Ann, who are Hong Kong ex-pats, so I've got all the insider info on where to go and what to see, which is always a good thing since I'm completely lost and havn't got a clue where I'm sleeping tonight. Need to find a hostel.... 13:00 Jesus, what a treck. ... read more

Still having a fantastic time here - I thought that the novelty of the city would wear off but it hasn't as of yet! During the day I went to the Peak and to Stanley Market. Hockey training in the evening was fun. As it was so long since i had picked up a stick that I thought I was going to be crap but it wasn't that bad! That said my legs have been aching since then. On Wednesday I decided that I had better get out of the city and went out to Lantau island by ferry and got the bus to see the big Budha - amazing. I can't believe how within an hour of HK centre you can be in the most remote areas. Included in the entry fee to see the ... read more

Well I've arrived in Hong Kong to spend a few days with Conor before Andy joins me on route to New Zealand. I'm having a fantastic time so far. It was a pretty long flight to get here but the 11 hours weren't as bad as I expected and I did sleep a little which is just as well given that Saturday was a long day!! Conor and Rita were playing in a hockey tournament so I went to support and we went straight from there to a bbq and out for the night. It was fun dancing in the rain outside Stormies in a T3 (their typhoon rating - T3 rain and wind didn't seem much worse than a typical day in Ireland!). Sunday morning I was woken for dim sum lunch (Julie found some ... read more

Well, sorry to backtrack folks, but thought i'd better fill you in! I've left Hong Kong now and have just arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam, but more about that next time! To get you up to speed with Hong Kong (its a long one... be warned!)... I set off from Teeside airport on Tuesday lunch time and arrived in London Heathrow about an hour later,... this gave me approx. 8 hours to kill,... well, sit and eat,... and eat and eat ! I enjoyed fish and chips for tea, possibly the last meal i'll eat that i'll actually recognise the meat! Well, eventually boarded the plane destined for Hong Kong. Got sat next to a chap called Martin who was going out to HK on business, he was my film buddy for the rest of the flight ... read more
