Well actually day 1 minus a bit. We have been dropped off at the Parkroyal at Melbourne airport by Stephanie so we can meet our early flight time on Monday morning. All good with room, lovely views of the car park - no matter, here to sleep, not peep....

Now day 1 dawns. Up at 0500 to do the 2 hour bit for a 0745 flight. Wander into the international terminal at 0545. Up to the business class line - yeah baby, now it is real. Only 4 in the queue. Gotta love that. Bags checked all the way to Nice then the kicker, plane is 1 hour late due to late arrival. Bugger, could have slept a bit longer. Oh wel,, into the Cathay Pacific lounge. Hmm, tiny teensiest lounge but had the goods for a wait, WiFi, toasted raisin bread and O/J.

Finally called and away we go. Into our big seats at the front of the plane, yeah, business class all the way. Sorry to brag (not really) but when a packaged trip comes up with business class flights, hey, what are you meant to do.....

Anyhoo, we have great seats (beds) side by side in the middle. Off into the wide grey skies we go. Pissing down as we leave, hope we are heading for better climes. Breakfast served, have to wake Chris to get that (reading the play yet?). Fed and Chris works out the flat bed routine. Gone...

Movie for me then a kip as well. Hey, these flat beds are as good as they promote. 2 hours later I wake feeling quite refreshed, wondering why I really needed a nana nap in the middle of the day. Never mind, more food coming. Finally get to Hong Kong on time and now we have a 8 hour stopover. Do we leave the airport or not. Eventually find our way out of arrivals to transit/departures and decide better to stay.

Go to partner lounge (Thai Airways) and in so decision made, not out if airport. Find a nice corner where we can see traffic movements and more sleep - for some. Time passes, slowly...... Then we get down to last hour, how bloody long can 8 hours be???

Off to our gate, via train to outplayed terminal at HKA. All very smooth, until half the Lufthansa crew (our next flight leg) crew try to get out at the wrong platform. Hmm, will they get us to Munich ok (next stop on our round the globe approach to Europe).

Onto our next plane, met by very officious cabin crew. Must be German. Oops, did that slip in. We have front row Business seats, but this time there is a first class section. Looks like we are left behind a little - maybe a lot.... Captain Helmut comes out to personally shake hanods with each 1st class dude - hmm. We get fresh air from everyone. Never mind, seats almost as good as Cathay ones - well nearly. Off on time - gotta love German efficiency.

End of day 1
