So it's now August...I know; how and when did that happen?
I want to go back a few months to January 1st 2014, and to new years resolutions. It's a while ago I know, but did you make any resolutions? Can you remember them? I'm sure many people go the distance and last 365 days, but for many of us, resolutions are a distant memory by February.
This year I decided to do something different, and I thought I would share it with you. I realised that every year I made a "new years resolution" that was not that meaningful, and I would lose motivation to maintain whatever it was, or I had made it so generic that I could convince myself it was impossible not to achieve it!
Here is what I am doing this year; each month I choose a different challenge to stick to for 30/31 days - in the hope it would be much more achievable. My plan is that by the end of the year, I might have completed twelve challenges, or even created twelve new positive habits.
Some things have turned into habits and others haven't. Either way it's
been interesting so far, and given me a goal every month, to take me through the year.
Here are the challenges thus far: January - I gave up coffee and caffeine: This one I managed to keep up for a very long time! At least three months. I use coffee as a treat now instead.
February - I had to read for at least 30 minutes a day. I loved this challenge; it made me realise how much I enjoy reading, and I miss it. Time to put that smartphone away!
March - I had to practice Spanish every day, and read a couple of pages of my Spanish novel. I love Spanish, so this one was great for me, and helped me maintain my Spanish. It was good to set aside specific time each day to focus on it, rather than the sporadic practice I usually get. I'd like to repeat this one.
April - I had to put away all my clothes/bags/random belongings that were on my bed, before I went to bed every night (I'm a messy bedroom kind of gal!) This might sound super lame....but it made a difference to me.
I think that's an important part of the challenge - to choose things that are significant to you, and that will make a difference to you. I thoroughly enjoyed waking up to a tidy room, but can't say that this one turned into a habit! oops.
May - I gave up eating bread. This was just a health challenge, and very achievable.
June - Every morning when I woke up, I drank half a litre of warm water. This has definitely turned into a habit. Living in such a humid place as Hong Kong, hydration is important so I start my day with 500ml at least. The fact the water is warm is quite a 'Hong Kong' thing, but it works for me.
July - I completed an online creative writing course! This was a great month of learning and writing, with some tests and assignments to complete. Let's hope it was worthwhile and this blog is passable!!
So that was the first half of my year, and of course there will be more to come! Suggestions welcome for the coming month's challenges!
I know this not technically a "Travel blog" but this is what
H20
I drank at least 500ml in the morning when I woke up. I am doing in Hong Kong at the moment, and I think as a population of travelers, being on the move, it is still possible to achieve/improve/learn all the time, wherever we are and whatever we are doing. It can give a bit of focus to any travel. I've been on the move whilst doing this too. Off the back of this challenge of mine, some of my friends have also taken it up. The beauty of it being you don't need to wait until January the first to begin!
In December, I'll let you know how the second half of the year goes!

I never was a resolution maker...
but this sounds achievable. How about we do an hour walk every day...starting in September since we are well into August?
