The nightly evening light show across the harbour
Sadly this is my last Hong Kong entry, our 2 months are up and it is time to leave our little flat in Sheung Wan and head back into China.

In our final weeks we saw some top sights that we had been saving such as; Ocean Park (a giant amusement park reminiscent of Alton Towers with a very scary 60 storey vertical drop and a cool aquarium),
Mong Kok with its ace market streets,
Lantau island, which boasts the worlds tallest seated bronze Budda statue!
Man Mo temple with its huge incense coils hanging from the ceiling,
Macau (see separate entry for Macau),
Aberdeen harbour..not much to see here!
Thousand Budda Monastry which more than lives up to it's name (12,800 Buddas) but Will and I were much more interested by the statues on the steps leading up to the Monastry itself...
And of course I dragged Will along to the lastest addition to the Disney empire which I enjoyed tremendously! Although I am reliably informed that the Space Mountain ride has been scaled down for it's Asian audience 😉

All in all Hong Kong has been a fantastic experience, it's a fabulous place to spend some time with some many interesting sights from the imposingly built up central district with it's shiny windows and swanky bars, to the grimy tower blocks housing small pungent chinese eateries with plastic fold down tables and whole ducks hanging in the windows. From the cool little market streets with small trinkets and antiques to the streets near our flat full of (very smelly) dried fish! There is so much diversity and it's been brilliant to have our own flat for a while and to know where things are and how to get around. Plus the shopping is the best of anywhere I have ever been (Harbour City Plaza alone has over 700 shops!)

In a quick overview here are my top Hong Kong memories..

The view across the harbour, day and night
The superb green tea in Dear Restaurant, our local eatery on Des Voex Road west
Shopping in Tsim Sha Tsui
Being very scared on The Abyss at Ocean Park (the vertical drop)
Disney Land!
Impressions on the steps of the Thousand Budda Monastry
The intoxicating Man Mo temple
Getting very drunk during the Lan Kwai Fong Happy Hour (at our age we should know better than to stop by "just for one"!!)
The popcorn at the cinema in Olympic City
Riding the Star ferry across the harbour for 12p and getting the best panoramic anywhere in the city.
