Hello All! Sorry I’ve been immensely slack on the blog front. I thought id update you on the last 4 weeks or so before I leave to China on Tuesday. I’m getting a 24 hour train to Beijing then on to Shenyang to see a friend, Danny, for 12 days then back to Hong Kong for return flight! The last 4 or so weeks have been great…I guess. If I’m honest it’s so fast & hectic I can’t remember last week let alone 4 weeks ago! Through the power of coffee & honey soaked porridge I will try to remember a selection of the highlights. Festival fun. A number of weeks ago I was researching a personal project about street art in HK. I was invited by local artists to attend (for free) a music/art festival. ... read more

Well hello & welcome to the third instalment of Hong Kong blog. I trust everyone is well & enjoying the cold in their respective countries? It is actually starting to get a tiny bit nippy here, who’d of thought it?! Everything is good here, still very busy & struggling to find time to do everything I want. So to recap last week: Monday was a public holiday here in HK so group of us went to a beach on HK island & enjoyed relaxing in the sun & swimming in the semi-questionable water. Great day all-round. Tuesday morning I was on a film shoot in a posh law firm in a massive sky scraper! It was a boring shoot of a partner (Chinglish woman with perfect Queens English) doing a piece to camera. Yawn. Wednesday & ... read more

Last night was my first solo night out of my travels, and maybe ever actually. It is a strange thing going out alone, I'm not sure if I have done it before, in England or anywhere. But last night I did. After speak to my dad, he suggested I start in Wan Chai, find some bars there and see what happens. So, I shaved, showerd and put on my going out clobber. Upon arrival at Wan Chai MTR station I had it in my head I needed exit F - probably confusing it with Causeway Bay exit for the Indonesian Consulate - so I walked up an escaltor, and then down, and looked around like a lost tourist before checking a sign. There is no exit F. So, Exit C was the one I wanted, and ... read more

Well it’s been over a week since my last entry & what a week! Many apologies for not keeping this blog up-to-date, it’s been so hectic here I’ve barely had a chance to relax & gather my thoughts. I guess I’ll quickly update you on the last week. After moving into my nice (small) clean flat on the Friday I decided it was time to play a bit of the old football, so on the Saturday I met up with a local team called Ham Sap (sweaty balls) & went on an hour long bus drive outside Hong Kong to a nice town (don’t envisage rural cottages with ornate hedgerows & postman Pat, instead imagine 50 story tower blocks blotting out the sun & many, many of them. On a side note id like to mention ... read more

Welcome to my travel blog! In this blog I intend to keep whom ever is interested up to date on my Hong Kong activities. Let the games begin... 6-7/10/09 (pasted from e-mail) Well I've arrived to the 'Paris Guesthouse' in one piece & what a journey it has been! If I'm honest I cant really remember most of it. Flight to Dubai was easy, comfortable & nice. Flight from Dubai was good, sat next to a couple from South Africa who come to HK often to buy precious stones for their jewelry business. They chatted lots & set me at ease. Arriving to HK was mad. Speed train to the city (bags weigh a ton!), Taxi to the guesthouse. I see the skyline. Was it real? Did I dream it? INSANE. Pulled up outside the 'mansion' ... read more

Hello my friends and family! So as of today, I have officially been in Hong Kong for one month. I think the first month in a new city is always the hardest. You have to adjust to the new lifestyle, you have to learn how to get around from place to place, you have to try and meet new people, and in my case, you have to find a job and an apartment asap. I kind of landed here without any idea of what to expect. I had no plan, no job, no friends and absolutely no clue what to do next. This was not in my plans. I was supposed to live in Shenzhen for the next year of my life! I was so prepared. I had done all my research. I found myself a ... read more

Hong Kong was absolutely fabulous. The people were great and the city was amazing. We met some wonderful people, did the markets, had dinner in the revolving restaurant, did a Harbour River cruise by night, shopped and ate at the Temple Street markets, participated in the shaking of the sticks and had our fortunes told at Sik Sik Yuen Temple at Diamond Hill, and climbed the 168 (or so) steps to the big Budda on Lan Tau Island in over 35 degree heat (not that I was counting or anything!!!) The temple was absolutely amazing and it was wonderful to see people praying, shaking sticks and lighting insence, and to be a part of the culture and history of Hong Kong, China. That I made it to the top of the steps to get to the ... read more

We began the 18th slowly with a sleep in until 0830. We then devoured our huge breakie before heading straight to our closest pub ‘The Bear and Bull’ (the 1st British bar in Hong Kong) for some Pints and Baileys on the rocks. It was then off to the Sik Sik Yuen Temple for some fortune telling, deep prayer, and meditation. After getting directions from a local to the Temple we subsequently found ourselves somewhere in the outskirts of China and no where near our destination. One non-english speaking taxi ride later we arrive at the Temple of Incense, where the drivers only two words of English were “Be careful”. The Temple was spectacularly designed amidst Chinese gardens, water features, turtles, huge prayer areas and of course incense. We made our way into the temple where ... read more
