Our time in Hong Kong was limited. We arrived at our hostel around midnight Thursday night after an pleasant experience going through immigration at HKG. Our hostel was not great, but fortunately we were only sleeping there. Out of the places we've stayed at, we paid the most and had the least value. If anything, I think that encouraged us to get out more during our time there. We had to change rooms at the hostel at noon on Friday (the room we'd booked had been given away by the time we arrived Thursday night), so we stuck around until then. After, we went out for lunch and went to a couple neighbouring hotels for some flyers about local attractions. We decided to sign up for one of the Gray Line tours of Hong Kong. We ... read more

I starting by telling some short description of the looong travel from Sweden to China. Check in at Landvetter airport thursday at 11am took a beer and headed for the gate. The plane to Istanbul was on time and the food was brilliant comparing to other meals i had before. In Istambul we took a cab to find a nice resturant were we could relax a little between transit. If the traffic wouldnt had been so badly in Turkey, we could have had some more time for sightseeing. After arriving in Guangzhou we had to catch a bus to the city from the airport that took another hour and had to hook up with the train to Hong Kong that took another 2 hours and after going trough endless bordercheckings and passportcontrols we had to cath ... read more

Yesterday's blog disappeared into the ether - blogging seems a lot like golf: once you think that you've mastered it,it comes back and bites you in the ass! So,recapping................didn't have a great night's sleep after the bells but didn't get up early to go to the gym! Went to church instead,St. Anthony's,up a very steep hill and boasting a very good choir (not quite as good as Military Wives, though). Decided to go to Lantau Island to see the big Buddha (and it is BIG). So we took a tram and then the underground to Tung Chung on Lantau. I had to buy a hat to protect my sensitive forehead and nose - it was shorts weather (and I forgotten to pack a hat)! We bought passes for the cable car from a "ticket tout" which saved ... read more

Soo the flip side to being on an university exchange is that eventually all the work that has not been completed as your too occupied with doing other things catches up on you. This means being stuck in a chair, at a desk/ or computer trying to figure out just how much you've missed out on (you know that you have missed, but that much, really?!?). In my particular case also being stuck in a lab completeing a group project and presentation where not all members have pulled their weight. (End of rant) On a lighter note, I have added some photos of the various places that I have visited. As I am short of time I have not written about the photos, but only placed a very short caption. None of the photos are connected ... read more

hmmmm- this blog is spurred on a comment that a friend made on fb " Hi stef, how goes it in hk? Love hearing your little posts- send us an email when you get a chance. :) miss you lots and lots. Love love love x" So I've finally created an account :) My vision for this blog is for a media where I can post my travel related adventures so that others can share in the experience. Fb is full of one liners and usually about pointless stuff, but here I plan to be a little more specific. Please don't expect anything regular in both content or frequency of publication coz I'm pretty random. Of course everything that I mention is a product of personal experience and circumstance. Just because I loved something, or had ... read more

I'd like to start by offering 2 pieces of advice on how to get more than 4 hours shut-eye on a Chinese overnight sleeper bus. Firstly make sure you're no taller than a 12 year old child. Secondly don't even consider rolling over during the night, it's just not physically possible.... On arrival at Hong Kong's border checkpoint we felt instantly more positive about the time we would spend here, despite me getting the once over by the immigration officer because of my 3 week old beard making me look completely different to my passport picture... Anyway, a 30 minute train ride into Kowloon, Hong Kong's northern side, and a further ride to Hong Kong Island and we met up with Junaidy in a mad panic outside Central Station with a taxi waiting across the street. ... read more

Hong Kong – A catch up with a great friend and a holiday whilst traveling, perfect! For the past 10 days I’ve been in Hong Kong, my destinations of late have become progressively more representative of life back home apart from not having a job of course. HK is very different to Shanghai and has a very western feel to it, it was like stepping into London but with intense heat and a lot more pollution. After yet another delayed flight, a protest in the airport by the passenger and my bags being lost I eventually arrived in HK 24 hours later than I had hoped. At some point in China I’m hoping an internal flight might get me to my destination within 4 hours of the allocated time but I’m not holding my breath. After ... read more

Well - you'll never believe what happened today! I went to take a photo and got a 'card error' message. Then couldn't get it to access any of the photos I've been taking over the last 2 days.... Dammit! Hoping Alan will be able to help me get to them when I get back :( At least I'm still in Hong Kong so can take a few more. It's been really hot and humid all day, but it's also been a great day. Took the Star Ferry across to Kowloon and went to the Jade MArket and Temple Street Market. Also visited a really old Buddhist temple. Then watched the light show from Kowloon looking over to Hong Kong Island. Hopefully those photos will still be safe..... I will try to upload some when I get ... read more
