I was fortunate to have friends with me for most of my stay in Hong Kong. It was much better to share my time for sightseeing and entertainment in the big city. Three perfect blue sky days will always be a great memory of my last weekend in Hong Kong :) We went to the Peak on a beautiful clear day, Hong Kong Park, caught the Big Bus to Stanley and Aberdeen and also the ferry to Lamma Island. We also had drinks at night on the 103rd floor of the ICC building at the piano bar of the Ritz Carlton and also the I bar @ I Tower. Another highlight of my visit to Hong Kong was catching the double decker tram to the Happy Valley Races on a Wednesday night. Even if you have ... read more

I heard the song "You leave me breathless" by Shayne Ward today and it made me think about my time in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a great city with amazing views, shopping, food and entertainment but travel is also about the people you meet and the friends you make along the way. This is my retirement holiday and so far it could not get any better. Someone told me I would run out of things to do if I stay in Hong Kong for two weeks. I was never bored and there is much more to Hong Kong than the amazing skyline and views. Travel to the other parts of Hong Kong away from Central and take a ferry to the islands and you would find a few days in Hong Kong is not enough ... read more

New photos on: http://s251.photobucket.com/albums/gg311/draftwrite/ …..Xiang Gang, or Hong Kong, as you & I know it, is now a part of China yet still apart. It is pretty autonomous in many ways & having spent such a long time under the influence of the British it's quite different from the mainland. An ex-colleague has been living there for a couple of years & suggested we visit. Lisa is a really lovely Canadian lady who is preparing to get married in July before moving to Vietnam with her French husband. A group of teachers from our school plan to go to Hong Kong during the 5 days of the Labour Day holiday. As usual there is attrition & in the end only Julie & I make it..... .....this blog is a bit late as the internet, already only ... read more

Days 4-5 - December 27-28 On day 4, we headed off from Bangkok to Hong Kong. Hong Kong is such a high-energy place. It feels like New York City of the east! Non-stop, bright lights, great transit system, crowds at all times of the day and night. It is fun just experiencing all of the energy. After getting to the hotel, we went down to Victoria Harbor to see the "Symphany of Lights" show where they offer a coordinated laser, light show from the buidlings on Hong Kong island. We then explored the area around the hotel. On day 5, we got an early start and took the famed Star Ferry from Kowloon over to Hong Kong island. The ferry ride offers some great views of the Hong Kong city-scape. We then made our way to ... read more

Had a nice lazy Monday morning so I had chance to sort out my blog and catch up on some emails etc. In the afternoon we head to the mall on Tracy’s estate to post some bits I don’t need for a while to Oz and purchased the steel toe cap boots I require for the fieldwork in Oz…hmmmmmm not quite as nice as my coral colour Ted Baker heels at home! For lunch we went for Dim Sum - small bite-sized portions of food like dumplings served in small steamer baskets – we had prawn, beef with herbs (a bit like a meatball), pork and prawn mixed, fish, prawn spring rolls and then a mix of a slice of fried fish stomach, chicken, ham and crab all wrapped in one parcel. I enjoyed the Dim ... read more

Day 4 (Sun 9thSep) Pretty much a write off due to getting in at half 5 Saturday night, went out after a pretty busy day with 4 other manxies from home, who either live here or were over for one reason or another. One by one they went home, but I didn’t. Ended up in a bar watching the tennis being the only person cheering for Andy Murray’s opponent as I really don’t like him. Anyways, the night was a good one and I managed to make it back to my hostel and my bed, somehow. Waking up around lunch time to then realise I’d lost my key card was confusing since I got into my room and my locker ok at 5:30am so I searched around but as yet no key card, hence the walk ... read more

We had high anticipation of HK as two of Lauren's friends live here, she trusts their judgement and they love it! But after Singapore it would take something special for us to forget the former charm and atmosphere we fell in love with. Did it? Well in short no not exactly. We would not see ourselves quitting the UK as our friends have done. HK is quite simply the most hectic place we have visited on any trip! Don't expect space of the pavement or mtr subway. The most unusual thing, even coming from Singapore where they have gone skyward for space, is exactly that. Everything is so tall so it means shops and restaurants like Pizza Hut and Starbucks aren't on ground level but only their sign telling you 3/4/5F signifying which floor of the ... read more

Feb 14, 2012- Valentine's Day- nothing like boarding a plan for a 17+ hour flight to Hong Kong. I have traveled through HK airport several times in my journey to China last year. This year, was my first chance to actually stay in Hong Kong... and I stayed in style- the Four Seasons is connected to the IFC mall which is where my companies offices are located. The Four Seasons was amazing, i kept chuckling to my self saying you have a cheeseburger, beer and tequila shot girl staying in a rich / fancy hotel- too funny! The people of Hong Kong were great and it was easier to get acclimated becacuse everyone speaks English. They still follow customs from when they were under British rule such as driving on the left hand side of the ... read more
