lunch yesterday!
after tutoring, I got these at a little place on the street. and they're cool, so i took some pics Hi again, two posts in one day! haha. The reason I even realized that I had never actually posted all of those pictures is that I went to get a massage today and wanted to tell you guys all about it! So, after talking about going to get a massage a bunch of times and never actually going, I finally went today. Flora told me the name of the place about 5 min away, and I took a cab there. I called Flora to figure out which building it actually was, and then noticed that they actually had a sign in in pinyin! (English letters instead of Chinese characters) She stayed on the phone when I went in and told the guy what I wanted over the phone. I had wanted an hour long thai massage, but they said it would have to take 2 hours, and being that it was only $17 I said alright! haha. I then heard the guy at the desk say "A foreigner is here for a thai massage" into his walkie talkie, LOL. Not sure what I was expecting, but I was surprised that the place was actually huge, and basically a spa version of
rice wrapped in bamboo leaves
actually, next mon. is the dragonboat festival, when you're supposed to eat these KTV (the karaoke places). You go up some stairs from the lobby and there are endless hallways of rooms, like a hotel. Some of the doors were open and there were just people laying on beds in the rooms, pretty funny. A lady took me to a room and then left. As you can see the room had two thai massage beds on the floor, a few cabinets..and a tv! lol, so random. I sat there for a bit and then a guy came in and turned on the tv and gave me the remote, so I sat and flipped through the channels. A few min later another guy came and gave me some cotton pajama type shirt and shorts to wear..I'm guessing they must have been the men's ones cause they actually fit! lol. After I changed, another guy came and brought me watermelon, sprite, and some really good honey & flower tea. Kinda funny since you can't really eat while you have a massage, but it was definitely a nice touch 😊
Finally, a lady came and washed my feet in some kind of dark green liquid. Then after that, she started the massage! Lots of kneading,
pounding, pulling, and cracking! haha. It was sooo good. and she kept moving the remote so i could reach it to change the channel, lol, very funny. I watched some beijing opera and then some soap opera type show, and then an orchestra concert which was nice. During the massage she took a few a breaks to get some water, some powder, and whatever else so after an hour and 45 min when she said "hao-le" which means like "good to go" I figured even though it hadn't been a full 2 hours, it must be over. Not really sure, I waited for a few minutes, and then when she didn't come back, I got changed back into my clothes. When I opened the door to leave though, a guy was standing there with a bucket of glass bubble cup things.
Kinda confused I tried to ask him if my massage was over or not, and he pointed to the glass things and told me it was free. Soo, I layed back down and the guy did this whole Chinese cupping thing. Now that I've come back and looked it up online I feel like I have heard about
it before, but at the time I had no idea what he was doing! haha. He held the glass cups near my back and then lit a lighter in the cup to get the oxygen out, and then quickly suctioned the cup to my back. He rubbed them around a lot and felt really good. Then he tried to tell me that he was going to put some of the cups on my back, up by my shoulders, and leave them for a bit because those muscles were tense, but of course i didn't understand any of that until after the fact, haha. After they were on for a few min he took them off and told me to look. I couldn't see..soo he took out his phone and took a picture to show me! hahahah I was soo confused! lol. Turns out the glass cups leave crazy purple bruises! When I saw them my face probably looked shocked, lol. But he told me "hung hao, hung hao" and then even in English, "very good, very good". Apparently the fact that I now have crazy gross bruises is a good thing, because it means that I needed the cupping done
and that they successfully loosens my muscles and sucked out my toxins! Think I'll spare you the pics of my back for now, but I'll definitely let you know how long they last, haha. The guy said they would go wawy quickly, but I'm thinking at least a week if not longer. On the bright side though, I really feel like it worked! I usually feel like my shoulders are really tight ande even after the thai massage they weren't that much better, but now my muslces feel totally relaxed! prettty cool 😊
On another note, OMG I cannot beleive it's June already!!!! This school year flew by, and I'm not really sure I'm ready for it to be over. I've tried to explain to my kids that I'm going back to America soon but I don't think many of them get it. Even though I only have two more weeks of school, once we leave the kids have to prepare for national tests and then take them the last week in June. This week will be by second to last time with each class though so I'm gonna be sure to tell them I'll only be coming one
more time. While there are certain kids from my classes who I've gotten to know and will miss, I'm gonna miss my tutoring kids so so much! I have so much fun going to their houses and have gotten to know them so well, it'll be really hard to say goodbye. I was even gonna tutor my last week here just cause I like to hang out with them , but it turns out that we have a long weekend this week, which makes next week kinda weird. Still figuring out plans but I think me and Candice are gonna go to Suzhou for a day to hangout, and then spend the next 3 days in Shanghai. Then, when we get back we'll teach tues-sat and thats it! We've scheduled the Sunday before we leave with Fen Si Jia, which says a lot since they never ever schedule something more than a day in advance here! lol So, thats it for now. Trying to make the most of the rest of my time here and not think about how much I'm gonna miss it yet! And while I'm hoping the next 17 days don't go too fast ...thats only 17
days til Japan!! very excited! 😱
