The Bai are a prominent minority in the Dali region. As we finished our hike, we came across a large Bai festival at a temple up the mountain. Riding the chairlift down the hill, we saw many more Bai riding up to celebrate.

At the Bai celebration, men wrote fortunes/prayers that were then offered and burned at the temple.

We rented bikes and went through Dali, and the villages north of Dali.

During the busy tourist season, these mules are busy helping people up the 24-bends. The 24 (sometimes called 28) bends are a grueling section of switchbacks on the hike. We practiced counting numbers like the Count in Sesame Street. One! ah!ah!ah! Two! ah!ah!ah!...
