The french girls i walked with
Met these cute French girls at my hostel and walked around with them I got the wake up call from “Baozu Boy” at about 5:15am and threw my shit in the hall. On the way down I ran into some French geeky-looking guys who also seemed to be heading for the airport. I asked them if they were interested in splitting a cab but ended up changing my mind and going alone later on. But first I ate one last egg, baozu and tofu soup breakfast at my favourite café. It was delicious as always and afterwards I did my farewells to the kind couple that ran the place.
I caught a cab on the main street and listened to music as I passed the grey-looking streets on the way to the highway. The city was waking up and it was beautiful in its own ugly way.
I arrived at the packed airport and barely had the energy to hassle with the cab driver who wanted to charge me Y100. I whittled it down to Y80 and got on line to check-in. ON the way some hustler asked me for my ticket and I lazily brushed him away. After checking in I saw him again and he was about to scam some
Some strange foods
They eat some really weird shit in Southern China poor American lady of her money. So I stepped in and saved her while seriously pissing him off. Then I made my way to the gate to find my flight which had been delayed. Boy, I hate airports.
We boarded the plane about 2 hours late but sat another 45 minutes or so in the sweltering hot plane until we were cleared to take off. It was pretty funny to see Chinese guys yelling down the aisle complaining to the poor girls working there. Finally after 3-4 hours the whole ordeal was over and I stepped out into the cool air of Kunming. As a nice software engineer living here told me its “a bit like living in Denver. We are about a mile high.” I left my pack in the airport and taxi’d to the hostel that was recommended to me, Camelia. It was a really clean, cool place full of western backpackers. I met a trio of French girls who I ended up meeting up with a short time later after dropping off my shit and grabbing a bite to eat. Me and the girls walked around the bustling bird market area. Sabine and I chatted about
Bath on the street
Bathing on the street not out of the norm.. her job as a physical therapist and her new apartment in China Town, Paris. Sophie her 24 year old sister just finished her masters and had a great little body. Then there was the older, a bit more worn in Elena who was taping local rural Chinese music. We toured until I found a haircut shop and parted ways with them to fix up my doo. I also chatted with some London science teachers in a chill bar called Canal Bar, but they shortly left on an overnight bus. So I read a couple books and did some internet as I waited for the heavy rain to subside. Finally I got up and jogged back to the room anyway. My first move was to shower and freshen up after having had my stomach feel shitty all day. I also chatted with the Israeli cutie next to me, but she was with 2 guys already.
I left the room and got a really relaxing foot massage for Y38 downstairs. Then I made my way for Face Bar where foreigners supposedly got 6 free drinks. But when I arrived they said it wasn’t true so I took off and walked around
Girls eating lunch
Just some random girls eating lunch on the street a very Chinese bar district. It seemed that English was basically non-existent so I figured I’d return to my hotel area. I went back to the Canal bar and though there were people it wasn’t the festive atmosphere I had hoped for. But I did manage to meet a 22 year old American guy from Detroit who seemed fairly sleazy. I sat down next to him and chatted while I downed my omelette. We decided to hit another place so we asked a big guy from Mississippi downstairs who was sitting next to a young Chinese girl. He recommended a placed Speak Easy and so we cabbed there. It was pretty much all white people and devoid of any attractive single women. So instead we played foozball against some French guys for the next hour or so, kicking their butts each time.
Finally I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer and said bye to my like-minded American Peace Corpos friend. I cabbed back to the hotel, asked for a wake-up call and then had an accident due to my loose stomach. Unknowingly I had dropped my wallet in the bathroom but had the luck to check and find it after waking up around 5am.
