Leshan giant Buddha

There is only one thing to see in Leshan and it is the Big Buddha or Dafo. We arrived late from Emei Shan (we had a late morning) so we just walked around town. Beryl finally found the socks she has been looking for for so long.

Some facts about Dafo: it was carved in the cliff in order to appease the river that flows below. It dates back from the Tang dynasty (618–907 AD) and is 233-foot tall. Its toes are bigger than a regular person…!

Many temples and tombs can be found in the same area, so we spend the all day exploring the site. The giant Buddha is indeed very impressive but it is not very 'beautiful'. And really the most impressive thing is the fact that it was carved within the cliff.

Il n'y a qu'une seule chose à voir à Leshan et c'est un Bouddha géant, aussi appelé Dafo. Nous arrivé tard d'Emei (on a fait la grasse mat'😉, du coup on a commencé par se balader dans la ville. Et Béryl a enfin trouvé les chaussettes qu'elle cherchait depuis son retour en Chine.

On vous donne quelques info à propos du Dafo puis on vous laisse regarder les photos : il a été gravé à même la falaise dans le but d'apaiser les eaux de la rivière qui coule en dessous. Il date de la dynastie Tang (618 à 907 après JC) et mesure 71m de haut. Ses orteils sont plus grand qu'une personne ! Il est impressionnant mais pas spécialement beau. Enfin, il faut quand même se dire qu'il est gravé à même la falaise et ça devait pas être évident.

Dans la zone autour du Dafo, il y a plusieurs temples et des tombes. Donc on a passé la journée à se balader dans les environs. C'était bien chouette.
