Of course you cannot come to Chengdu and not visit their iconic panda sanctuary. Those big lazy fur balls are super cute!!
Nice early start to the day not quite as early as id planned but couldn't get myself out of bed. 2 trains and bus later i was arriving at the city sanctuary along with a few hundred other people. As i made my way around the park i started off by seeing the recognisable giant panda and they really are huge bear size which i think is easy to forget when you look at cute little pictures or teddy bears of them. They strut their stuff around their large enclosures shaking their bottoms as they go like a girl trying to get a guys attention quite amusing really. For the majority though they just sit and eat then roll a little bit and eat some more but i could still easily have stood their taking hundreds of photographs.
As the pandas moved so did the crows quick follow it take photographs its doing something and i cant deny i was with them running along trying to get that close up or perfect angle. After the Giant pandas
i made my way to the red panda enclosure now these guys blow the lid off cuteness OMG they are completely adorable. Within their enclosure they come out from behind the fences and walk among the people and as you can imagine the people squabble over who can get closest to take the photograph. I happened to be very lucky on 2 occasions as i didn't need to fight the crowds following these red little puffs of fur as they walked right up to me and next to my feet not once but twice winning the panda game right here. So i of course took some cool videos and photos as they approached me.
Next was the baby red pandas and i was quite disappointed to find they had actually closed this area to high numbers of pregnant red pandas and risk to them which i can understand but isn't that the whole purpose of that enclosure ?? Never mind off to see baby giant pandas.
I seen a very lazy mummy panda who seemed a little bit fed up so i would guess she was nearly ready for baby panda to arrive. As
i walked around the outside of the enclosure i could just see empty rooms and outside areas with nothing in them so where are the babies. Then i notice a huge crowd of people they must be there of course. All of the young pandas had been put in one play area together to mingle, roll around and snooze together one little guy was in a tree and was leaning further and further trying to reach the opposite branch he leaned so far that the poor bugger actually ended up hanging upside down before i quit his venture and pulled himself back up.
Overall they are amazing to watch and it is great what China and other conservation areas are doing for this species however it is a little bit like we are forcing them to survive evolution and would die out if not for human help. Quite sad really well thats that anyway I'm all finished in China now and in a few days i will be setting off for pastures new can't believe i'm finally going to Japan. I do have a nice night out to look forward to before i leave got to paint
the town red before i go eh. See you on the other side
