This is the tenth annual visit we’ve made to China. To celebrate as only the Chinese can, we spent most of Monday reflecting on the achievements of the past decade but also looked ahead to where this milestone will lead. We were surrounded by bright red banners with yellow and which Chinese characters. Only when the obvious “DMEI” word was included did we realize these banners were up for us
Monday morning was spent in high level discussions of potential collaborations the partnership could generate including clinical care, resident and fellow education (including exchange programs) and basic science and clinical research projects. Participation of high level officials from Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital (SPPH) and Dean McGee Eye Institute (DMEI) allowed for some formal but reasonably open discussions.
