Chengdu (May 27, 2012) We have had our welcoming dinner at the famous Tian Chenlou Hotel in Chengdu with our very gracious hosts. Dr. Fan is Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at SPPH and he hosted a dinner for us. Along with Dr. Fan were many familiar faces: Robert, Regan, Jim, Lucy, Susan Wei, Nina, Lisa, Doris and several new faces. Dr. Gene Anderson joined us arriving in Chengdu from meetings he had participated in Beijing, along with Hans Cao. During dinner we had an extensive discussion about the plans for the week including strategic meetings, 10th Anniversary celebration on Monday; a scientific symposium on Tuesday and Wednesday; clinical outreach in remote township on Thursday and a visit to West China Hospital at Sichuan University on Friday. Dinner was the typical hospitable eclectic Sichuanese food fest - 20 some dishes of all kinds of local delicacies. All served family style on a huge glass lazy susan. Great fun and lots of laughter along with the productive discussions. Should be an interesting week!
