With a 35 minute delay, MU5690 took off from the small Baotou airport at 14:20, and landed some 50 minutes later at Taiyuan, Shanxi province. For its size and population, I reckon Baotou could have an upgrade in both aiport facilities and number of flight and destinations as well as frequency available... The flight was pleasant, with a gradual ascent and descent. First crossing the yellow (not as much as being brown) river just south of Baotou and lots of farmland, the scenery changed to mountains and nearing Taiyuan, a craggy landscape, where each piece of land and even hill seemed to have been used as it was all terraces, appeared through the plane window. Taiyuan, not at all famous and known as a dirty city, was one big chaos. I had to go to the east bus station to get on a bus to Wutai Shan, but this was very complicated. Luckily a student following an English language course helped me out. He was not from Taiyuan himself, so had to ask around for the bus himself. It turned out that many people said that there is no bus, because the roads are really bad around the east bus station. They all proposed to take a taxi. So I decided to do that. the bus to taihuai, a small valley in the mountainous region of wutai shan, would leave around seven but first i had to find it. everyone wanted to bring me to taiyuan so i kapt on running around in front of the railway station looking for the bus. finally somebody told me that i had to go down the street. i was picked up by a guy on my wy to the bus station. he helped me buying the ticket and put me on the bus. it was a small bus and the seats were etremely small so that i had to sit completely upright but still my knees would be pressed into the seat of my frontman. it was kind of uncomfortable to sit like this for 5 hours. after about one hour we stopped ... read more
