Let's visit Shanghai

Shanghai. 23 million people. It's big. But most of the tourist sites are concentrated around/not far from the BUND. So it is very easy to go around. I really had a great time.

I started my visit by going to the Yu Yuan (or Yu garden) and the old shanghai streets that surround it. I spent more time there than I intended. But I don't care, it's just me. I really enjoyed the garden, it was huge with lots of pass and building, and ponds and bridges and weird shaped doors and dragons on the walls. Very cool. In the streets around, you just have to be careful about those people who ask you to take a picture of them and then turns out to speak very good english and to be very friendly. They inevitably invite you to go with them to see a tea ceremony. It's a fake, I was warned beforehand (which was good has lots of people asked me).

The Bund and the financial district are better viewed at night. The neon lights of the financial district enhance the outline of the skyline while the spotlight on the old buildings on the Bund make each of them stand out. I can tell I did both side during both day and night time.

I ended my day walking in the pedestrian street of East Nanjing road. It could be like any shopping street in the world (except that everything is in Chinese). I was actually surprised to see so many Korean idols trying to sell beauty products, clothes or fruit juice.

I started my second day by a walk on the BUND. Not that impressive during the day. Then I had to buy a new hat to replace my lost one. It is way too cold to go around without a hat. I spend the afternoon in the french concession. The only french thing about it are the trees lining the road and the bar with terrace. I didn't find the architecture french at all!

I visited the former house of Sun Yat Sen. So apparently he is considered the father of the nation but if my understanding is correct he founded the Republic of China and the Kuomintang. The Republic of China is most commonly known as Taiwan and the Kuomintang is definitely a political party there. I don't get it! Can someone explain to me? (I don't really want to rely on google China....)

I had the best dinner experience ever. I was looking for a place to get food on Nanjing road and saw that huge food store. I walked in thinking they will probably have a food court (we are in China after all). They had one at the very back of the 3rd floor. It was all in Chinese but they had the food on display so I could see what was on offer. After some observation, I realised I had to get a ticket from the cashier. So to do that I had to ask what I wanted. So I choose the one stand nearer to the cashier so I could point. Good choice! I had a soup with rice noodles, japanese black mushrooms, gizzards, quails eggs, meat balls, sausages wrapped in thin omelette. It was really good and cost me under £2! Amazing!

Shanghai. 23 millions de personnes. Autant dire qu'il y a du monde! Mais la majorité des sites touristiques sont concentrés autour du BUND ou pas loin. Et avec le métro c'est super facile de se déplacer. Je me suis régalée.

J'ai commencé ma visite par Yu Yuan ou jardin Yu et les vieilles rues qui l'entourent. Le jardin est immense avec un tas de coins et recoins, des portes avec des formes étranges, des dragons sur les murs, des marres et des ponts. C'est vraiment chouette. Même les rues autour sont sympas, il faut juste se méfier des gens qui vous demande de les prendre en photo, qui parlent super bien anglais et qui ensuite vous demande si vous voulez les accompagner pour voir une cérémonie du thé. C'est une arnaque connue dans le coin. J'étais au courant donc je ne me suis pas faite avoir. Par contre j'ai passé beaucoup plus de temps dans le quartier que prévu. Mais bon ce n'est pas grave, je suis toute seule.

Le BUND et le quartier des finances sont bien mieux de nuit que de jour. Parole d'initié, j'ai fait les 2 côtés à la fois de nuit et de jour. En fait la lumière des néons surligne les hauts buildings du quartier financier et des projecteurs sont utilisés pour mettre en valeur les monuments sur le BUND.

J'ai fini ma journée par une balade sur la rue piétonne de Nanjing Est. Ça pourrait être n'importe qu'elle rue commerçante du monde sauf que tout est en Chinois. J'ai été super surprise voir le nombre de stars Coréennes qui sont sur des posters pour faire la promo de cosmétique, de fringue, ou de jus de fruits.

J'ai commencé ma deuxième journée par une balade matinale sur le BUND. Vraiment pas si terrible dans la journée. Ensuite je me suis acheté un bonnet pour remplacer celui que j'ai perdu hier. Il fait bien trop froid pour se promener dehors toute la journée sans bonnet. J'ai passé l'aprèm' dans la concession française. Ce quartier n'a de français que les arbres qui bordent la route (des platanes) et les cafés avec terrace. L'architecture n'avait rien de français à mes yeux.

J'ai visité l'ancienne résidence de Sun Yat Sen qui est considéré comme le père de la nation. Je trouve cela un peu étrange étant donné qu'il a fondé la République de Chine et que son parti politique s'appelait le Kuomintang. Les deux sont maintenant à Taiwan. En effet le pays que l'on appelle Taiwan se nomme en réalité la République de Chine. C'est même là que se trouve la constitution Chinoise écrite par Sun Yat Sen. Enfin bref, c'est un peu compliqué tout ça et je m'emmêle un peu les pinceaux. Si quelqu'un s'y connait je veux bien qu'il éclaire ma lanterne. Je n'ai pas trop confiance en Google China pour trouver une réponse....

Je me suis dégoté le dîner le plus traditionnel possible (enfin presque). Je cherchais à manger sur rue Nanjing et j'ai vu cette espèce d'énorme centre commercial où se vendait de la nourriture fine. Je me suis dit que je trouverais un truc à manger dedans et bingo! Au troisième étage, tout au fond, il y a genre une cafétéria, tout est en chinois bien sûr. Mais ils avaient des modèles en plastique des plats proposés donc c'est facile de savoir ce qu'on veut manger. Par contre c'est bien plus compliqué de le commander. Il faut aller à la caisse et dire ce qu'on veut. Evidemment je ne peux pas faire ça, du coup j'ai montré le stand le plus proche. J'ai eu une soupe avec des nouilles de riz; des champignons noirs japonais, des boulettes de viande, des oeufs de cailles, des saucisses enroulées dans une fine omelette et des tranches de gésiers. Je me suis régalée!
