Welcome to China!! Just about survived the 49hr ferry over and after getting rid of one Dutchman literally 10mins later i stumbled across another Dutch! the boat had its ups and downs but with nothing else to do me and the only other tourist on the boat video blogged the lot so that will save the hassle of re telling the relatively boring story here.. =D
so had the day in shanghai and it was a dive. yet again just another one of these big asian cities that dont seem to be all that different. met some forgien students and grabbed lunch and beer with them, prices are awesome here!!! budget should return level after a couple of weeks which is always a good sign! wandered down to the main area of the city were every tourist in shanghai seemed to be and the chinese loved it, no idea why me but even with all the other europians around i seemed to be their favourite. backpack and me were waiting around and i was suddenly surrounded by china, maybe about 20 of them chatting away to me in the local tongue, no idea whats going on but was all good fun! trying to have a conversation and teach me a few lines with heaps of pointing and photos with random old ladies haha.
met my local surfer for dinner.. street kebabs and about 50 of them! everything from pig bones to chicken hearts and stomach but was wiked! even got a nice fold out couch for sleeping :D
lucky i set my alarm to get up to catch my bus in time, rushing around got me to the station and asked someone the time only to release how thick id been, only gone and forgot to change my time from japan and was an hour early! cheers for the 5am wake up though i really needed that!! sleeping on the bus was no option with such loud and awful Chinese dance music the whole way so tonight should be v nice with an ACTUAL BED and room to myself.
In haungshan and staying with an american english teacher, checked out the local old streets, laughed a lot at the really happy chubby face of buddha so brought him on a bracelet, inherited some accordion from another surfer which is now going to be my instrument of choice and grabbed heaps of very cheap and awesome local food! apart from an ice lolly made purely from frozen kidney beans, whose great idea was that invention??
first impressions of china then.. to my surprise in most ways its completely opposite to japan. the people seem to be very rude and filthy, dont listen to rules and dont seem all that friendly but with so many people here its also very built up and the weather is rubbish. BUT with so many people here chances are ill find some nice chinese along the way! hitting the yellow mountains tomorrow so that should be top trip so long as the rain holds up
= peace x
