I can hardly believe that I have cycled so much in 7days'holiday. From Qingdao(where my university is)to Dalian(a coastal city in northeast China),and I also passed the city of Yantai(145mailes away from Qingdao). Today I have come back to my university ,and I have eventurally believed that it 's true !I have survived !I have made it!I have come back! I used hesitated a lot before ,because my racing bike has gone. For sure someone will lend me a bike ,but I didn't think I can borrow a bike which can last so long time .However one of my friends made up his mind to join in this trip, and this is his first trip in China .I did not wanna let him down,so I have come . Bing Yu Gou doesn't mean 'Ice Fish Dog' as my initial attempt at translation went. The trouble is no Chinese person has yet to tell me what it does mean. It's become an obsession for me. The most convincing answer I've had so far is 'Ice Mountain River', with the name conjuring up (in Chinese minds anyway) images of idyllic scenery and fresh mountain streams. Many locations in China have been given such a name to attract the tourists. Bing Yu Gou is apparently very 'haoting', nice-sounding, which was enough to appease me. It's also known as 'Little Guilin', Guilin being on the backpackers trail in Southern China, though I've only seen photos so it's difficult for me to comment. . The first 20 minutes there were perfect. After entering through the East Gate we boarded ... read more

So I'm off on another trip around Southeastern Asia. I'm going to take my notebook again so I can keep a journal (although I'm going to take some of it in Chinese this time so I may have to translate it when I get back - hence the English might not be so good). I'm really looking forward to this trip!... read more

For those of you who I haven't been in touch with, yes I'm back in Dalian. I've been back here since December 2006 studying chinese with a bit of teaching on the side. It's not really been "travelling" as such, but here are a few photos from this year. Nothing too exciting I'm afraid.... read more

Last Day in Dalian Today Miao and I will be packing up our luggage and getting ready to leave. Friday morning we get on the train and head up to Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning province. We will be in Shenyang for two days, then take another train to Miao's hometown of Fuxin where we will stay all next week. I am very excited about this second half of the trip. I will get to spend some time in the countryside, as well as see Beijing and Tiananmen Square. We scratched the plans to see the Great Wall, though, which I am kind of bummed about but it was a necessary move. I originally planned on staying in Beijing for about a week, but I loved Dalian so much that after a week or two ... read more

UPDATE ON MY TRAVEL BLOG plus a NEW VIDEO!!! Hi everyone, First, just want to let you know that travelblog.org suffered a memory failure, and the guy (yes, the ONE guy) that runs travelblog.org did not properly have his backup mechanisms in place, so all of my former travel blogs have been wiped out. I am back blogging here though, because while this site was down I investigated the alternatives and they all suck. So here we are... THE GOOD NEWS IS, Since I use YOUTUBE to host/broadcast my videos, the only content I lost was the text of my blogs and the pictures I had uploaded. So, if you did not get a chance to view all of my China videos, or if you want to RE-view them or forward them to other people that ... read more

My Travels in ChinaBill ConradNEW VIDEO!!! "Dry Run Video" for the Dalian BEER FESTIVAL!!! All of my videos up until now has just been me editing and dressing up raw, 1st-person footage. For the next part of my trip, I want to include some "reporter on the scene" type of videos, where I "cover" aspects of China or certain events... more like what you would see on a travel channel on cable. Enter sidekick Miao, who has had so much fun helping me make my other videos that she has volunteered to be my new camera person here, allowing me to play on-camera host to you, my honored viewers! This coming Friday, here in Dalian, Miao and I will be going to their annual international beer festival in Xinghai square. I want to cover that evening ... read more

Here is the movie of my class field trip. My Chinese class took a field trip on Friday to Dalian's Labor Park. Made a video of the day. It's about 13 minutes long, and it shows the beauty of the park and all the different things people go to the park to do. Met some Americans from Missouri that had lived in Dalian for 5 months or so, and they love it here. They are at the end of the movie. ... read more

Saturday July 14, 6:30 am. *****click here to see my new YouTube video from Dalian***** First full day in Dalian is history. We started out going to the free breakfast at our hotel. It was not what I expected. Lots of green salty vegetables, a few of which were, according to my friend Miao, "from the sea." Miao seemed to enjoy her breakfast, as did the other 75 people that were waiting for the chow bell to strike at 7am. Me? I ate a few pieces of "cake" that was actually quite delicious (think jiffy cake with no frosting) and a few cookies that were also good. I was a little embarrassed though because Miao knew how hungry I was and then all I got was about 2 cubic inches of cake and 4 little ... read more
