Geo: 32.05, 118.78So waking up at 6am to go to work is probably something that lots of people do.For me its a struggle. Its far away. I have to organize and pay for a Taxi. There are 23-25 students per class and aged around 16years old.Its only one day a week and maybe that's the problem. So either I go full time or give up?I chose...... Give up. So I resigned today at 1:22pm.But as it happens I was offered a job at 6:08pm, closer to home so I can scooter or catch a train, (3 stops away) and there are less kids in a class about 3-7 per class the other huge difference is they are anywhere from 4-10 years old?? Interesting. So when you close one door.....Another opens.... read more

8th Oct: Since we had the whole day ahead of us, we decided to head in a different direction to yesterday. Instead of going to the main area, which has all the gardens in it, we took the subway in a different direction, near to where the Tiger Hill Scenic Spot is. Looking on the map, we figured out that we could walk there via Shantang Street, which is another walking street, similar to the street we had been on the day before. I had expected this street to be more like the one we had visited, however it surprised me as it was quite different. While the street yesterday was definitely geared towards tourists, this one was more for the locals. The shops sold normal everyday things and we able to get some fruits and ... read more

We had arrived in Suzhou quite late the previous evening, so had only had a short walk out to find some dinner. Today we were ready to explore. We headed towards the main shopping area, nearish to where we were staying in search of some breakfast. We found a place selling coffee and juices so got some of them. We didn't find any food, but did come across a nice looking temple. The Xuan Miao Temple was built in 276 AD, but had a different name, Zhen Qing Taosist Temple, back then. The temple changed names pretty frequently, normally when a new dynasty took over ruling China. The temple was quite big, as there were buildings connected to it, that were not joined to it, so we got to explore those too. I love all the ... read more

After having done quite a lot of walking for me already this week I decided to make one last push and get myself out to Suzhou. This city is also known for its beauty alongside Hangzhou so I suppose it would be rude to miss it. Despite the continuing rain I got myself off on the bullet train (totally know this station like the back of my hand now). On my arrival their train station a lovely girl working at the information desk walked me all the way to the bus that I needed and wrote on paper for me where to ask the driver for. I found the ticket office for these amazing gardens and paid for my 90 yuan ticket little bit pricey but if they are nice as people say then should be ... read more

Wow, time fliesmust be the most accurate of all the idioms. It is mind boggling to think that I have just 6 weeks left in China. My last day in Wuxi is November 30 and with the help of my friend Susan who will spend my last week here with me, I will be home on December 2. I have been so very fortunate to have many friends come to visit and to have made many new friends in my year here. Jenna came in August and we had a great time and an amazing trip to Huangshan Mountain. The natural beauty was astonishing and the hiking was ridiculously steep, arduous and at times, scary. It was really magical and ended with a visit to the Huangshan Hot Springs. Just what my aching body needed and ... read more

Asia » China » Jiangsu » Yancheng August 20th 2015

Not many of my readers both foreign and Chinese will know this place, aside from the ones that are from here. Defeng is a city level prefecture that belongs to Yancheng here in Jinagsu province. The last time I was here was at least 5 years ago visiting a friend of mine John. Now time as again presented an opportunity to visit him once more. Things have changed somewhat for him; he has been married and has a daughter now. His lovely and talented wife is also expecting their second child. Day 1 My journey starts off of course in Jinhua, leaving my already packed bags behind for this trip to return there to fetch them and go to Wuhan. I had booked a train ticket to Nanjing since there is no direct train service to ... read more
