It has taken me 45 years to find my favourite word. On asking a friend, many years ago what his favourite word was, he said ‘humility’. This friend always inspired me with his complete fullness whilst seeming that he lived in total emptiness, through his silence. He will not remember that he once told me that this was his favourite word. I remember his art books lined neatly across his dirty floor, no home on a shelf but finding homes in themselves, in his hands, through his eyes and thoughts - no need for a dead shelf. I once wrote him a 6000 word letter. I realise that all my life, I have been curious and it is curiosity that moved me on from a paradise of a home in Derbyshire, to learn, to make mistakes, to ... read more

Missing sleeping on him, alongside him, waking beside him, seeing his curls feeling safe in the comfort of coupledom The sound of a bouncing dog on the hard wooden floor, laughing at his twisted jumping around a bowl of food being delivered, seeing his understanding of the world develop, him knowing when he is naughty but still doing it Waking with a normal heart, not empty or heavy Family walking in the sunshine and darkness The endless possibilities ‘That look’, the look that took my breath now given to another The yard, the hands, the ring. The sound of his return That light falling in the room across the crystals My chosen home and neighborhood, the egg lady and banana man Not feeling tired I wipe my sleeve across the pages of last week, across the ... read more

So...I've finally started a blog! My visit to Shanghai on the weekend was nothing short of an awesome experience! Loved it. Everything was great from the Bund to the Old Town to The French Concession! had an awesome time and can't wait to go back! In other news I have started on the planning of the rest of the big adventure. Will finish up my job in Suzhou at the end of June and then plan to travel to Xian and down to Yunnan. I will then cross into Laos and am enquiring into volunteer work on the organic farm atm. Am also keen to teach kids English at the associated community centre. This place looks awesome check it out: http://www.laofarm.org/ Will then travel through Vietnam and Cambodia but this is also still in the early ... read more

This is the blog I placed on 16 March. I removed it because I felt as if it was 'hanging out my dirty washing' but I am now replacing it because it has a time and place and I will also be able to guage my movement. A separation - 16 March 2009 I had realised, without a shadow of a doubt that the relationship that Chris and I have been sharing during the last couple of months has deteriorated into something that seemed painfully irretrievable but I couldn’t quite put my finger on why. But now, I understand everything. I met Chris in 2006 on a training course. My God, he was bright, passionate, intelligent and of course, cute. I wasn’t looking for a man (or in his case a boy) I was there to ... read more

I enjoyed a nice afternoon at last weekend wandering on the Shan Tang Street. Shan Tang Street is an old street at Suzhou. Actually it is not only one street, it’s a block with the Shan Tang Street as its center. According to the written record, Shan Tang Street has more than 1100 years history, which is constructed in the Tang dynasty. The style of the street is very traditional Suzhou Water Land. Shang Tang river rests along with the street with many bridges on. ... read more

As an old Chinese saying, the weather of spring is just like the baby’s face, cry suddenly and smile suddenly. It dropped more than 20 degree during the past 2 and 3 days and I have to put on my heavy coat again. The wind which chills to my bone when I was walking outside this morning reminds me that it is still winter. Waiting for the real spring:) ... read more

Winter this year in Suzhou is not quite cold as last year. We had a unexpected big snowfall in the early days of 2008. Though quite a lot of inconvenience when the snow hit us last year, now all nice memory of the beautiful picturesque view. Actually this town is really rare to meet so huge snow even in winter:)... read more
