Early, about 07.30h, after breakfast, we climbed aboard buses to view the TGP. It was rainy and misty - too bad as it would have been nice to see the project more clearly. On the way, our large-group guide told us that he himself had been relocated, and he is very happy. In fact, the government took a survey, and, of those relocated, 80% are very happy and 20% are happy. No one is unhappy.

At our first stop, we saw the dam near river-level. We could see the siltation sluice gates clearly - also the locks. Second stop was panoramic view. We watched two ships move down river through one set of locks. Our third stop included a model of the dam site and photos of construction. The dam is 2/3 built - final phase will be completed soon.

Back on board the boat - packed - then through the Western Xiling Gorge. It's a bit funny to be back on swiftly flowing river, after having been on essentially a lake for several days. But soon, this will be the reservoir of a much smaller dam down river. We proceed through additional locks (by ourselves) then on down river to Yi Chang.

Lunch was had on board but almost immediately afterwards, we disembark.

It is raining, and we are all reluctant to go out. Instead, we are deposited at the hotel and spend the afternoon reading and watching movies (in English). Kyla and my parents enjoy foot massages. The kids swim briefly (Keegan seems to be cured of what ailed him; good old Chinese medicine and antibiotic combo), but the water is very cold.

We all dine in the hotel, in our own private dining room. The menu is full of strange items - frog parts, pig's face, sheep's stomach - kind of like Scottish cooking, but we manage to find four or five tasty dishes and eat almost all of it.

Back to movies and bed.
