my seat on cathay china from toronto to Hong Kong Hello everyone! On Friday at work, we celebrated our co workers June birthdays.... Happy Birthday to Cynthia, Fiona, and Summer! Saturday am, got up and headed to the Hangzhou Railway station where I met my co- workers Lisa, John, Erich and Graham for our trip to Shanghai.... and what an adventure it was between taking the railway, the subway, walking and taxi's we made our way to the hotel and around Shanghai. Shanghai is a lot more westernized than Hangzhou and is a very large city.
We started off in the fabric market where the boys and Lisa were having some suits made which were delivered to the hotel on Sunday at 12 - what service !!! We then walked around the Bund and did some shopping,
We started the night off in the " British" pub in the hotel- we are all still trying to figure out what made the pub British... we then ventured out and went to the British Bulldog and then decided to leave the English pubs for some Irish pubs. We went to O'Malley's but it was closed for a private function - the nerve of them 😊 , so we stumbled on down
the street and found the Blarney Stone. My own little piece of Ireland in Shanghai.. John was happy because the pub served strongbow cider. Graham was able to put a US Dollar up on the ceiling and have his name etched there in history- ha ha.. We ended the night at an Aussie bar with more pints and some shots. We finally made it out of the pub at 3:30am and back to the hotel.
Sunday started with a panic when Graham could not find his passport but all ended well, when we located it on the floor of the pub in the hotel- phew.
We then did some more exploring of Shanghai... went over to the French Connissiery which has a bunch of shops and restaurants and then luckily we came across a very nice person who spoke Chinese and was able to direct us to Old Shangai to see some traditional market and old architecture.
We met a local artist, Lisa and her husband and purchased some art work.. I love mine, I can't wait for my mom and dad to see it when I get home... I hope they enjoy it too. on the
way back to the hotel to grab our bags, Graham and Erich's taxi driver was in an accident with an bus- luckily everyone was fine...
Finally we made it to the train station, made our way back to Hangzhou. Shanghai is a lovely city and was a lot of fun with some great friends.
Back to work tomorrow,
Sue
