The Big Adventure
Day 1
So the time finally came for me to have to say goodbye to all of my lovely students in Yantai. It was quite sad knowing i will likely never see them again when i was just getting to understand all of their individual personalities all i can hope for now is that they remember me fondly. I know at least my 2B class will remember me as crazy because they told me so but I'm no more crazy than them.
Packing up my room with great difficulty how on earth did i get all of this stuff out of this case because it definitely ain't fitting back in! I ended up giving 3 bags of stuff to another teacher who is very kindly taking it back to the UK for me other wise i would have been totally stuck. Even without them and bag to charity I'm still swamped with 2 cases and backpack so the moral to this story is pack lighter next time! Much much lighter!
Off to the train station at 5:30am grrr thinking to myself at least i will get some sleep on my
6 hour journey to Beijing its not so bad. Climbing in to my seat getting comfortable and just as I think its all going well a school trip of about 20 girls claim the seats surrounding me oh this is definitely not going to be my day. Having had small bits of sleep frequently disrupted by flashing cameras as apparently pictures of a strange red haired girl nearly drooling on a train are a commodity. Managed to get my cases off the train and through 2 metro stations before getting to my new hostel (quite proud of that didn't fall down stairs or anything)
Checked in dumped the bags and went off to meet some friends for well deserved drinks. It's bitterly cold even when indoors so i am now living in my new coat kindly donated to me by a Canadian teacher from my school its like my personal heater love it. It was great having a catch up with people from my intern training and looking forward to further abuses of alcohol before i leave for my next stop.
I have not been brave enough to try the strange foods on the
market yet but i intend too before i leave!
Part 2
My days in Beijing flew by like a whirlwind! I didn't get chance to eat a scorpion or have another night out like planned but never mind I'm sure I will find some odd foods to try along the way.
I visited the temple of heaven which was a beautiful sight even in -6 all wrapped up it was great. After having a good look around I headed to the big pearl market to see what goodies i could barter for. I finally found tiger balm for my Nan which ive been looking for everywhere and got myself a couple of other copy bits like make up and another pair of headphones. Overall not a bad day.
Before i knew it, it was time to head off to the airport for my next stop Chengdu. Yay for somewhere that will be a bit warmer! My luck unfortunately decided to run out and i ended up spending 8 hours sitting in Beijing airport due a delayed flight caused by bad weather - well that makes me confident to fly..... not.
See you in chengdu 😊
