How far does money go?

I'm looking at an ESL teaching job in Feng Tai. They are offering 5000 Yuan/month, free accommodation, visa provided, if you can finish one year contract, provide 1000USD as airfare. How far does 5000 Yuan/month go? Since they are providing accomadations, is this plenty for me to buy food and have some social life, at least?
