Hello from Beijing. I thought this may be a good way to stay in touch and share with you all our photos and experiences. We have only been here for 3 days and we feel like we are a million miles away from you all. The girls were crushed to find that many websites here are prohibited including face book, you tube and just about all social networking sites. This is the only blog site we could get to work. We had a great flight over and it was very happy reunion when we arrived in Beijing. Generals garden is enormous and is heavily under construction. We will enjoy watching everything come alive. We are of great interest to the many hundreds of staff that are around the place. Everyone stops and stares. A truckload of ... read more

Well hello world! Okay..soo, after an eventful summer and and exciting time in Canada, I made my way over to Beijing. A little small detour to Qatar for 12 hours, and a stunning chubby baby to accompany me and my mum on the flight. I'm moving to Beijing for a year, and no plans yet for the future, but what i do know is that i will be working at an architecture firm for at least a while. My mum, horrified by the thought of me moving to China, decided that this is the perfect time for her to travel and go places she had never. It's a great plan. It really is. And her thoughts behind it was "hey! i am going to have a free-of-charge travel guide!". Now what she didn't calculate is that ... read more

If you're in the Chaoyang district, you have to check out this awesome juice shop I found the other day. It's called iF Juice and the shop was very clean with friendly service. The juice contains nothing but fruit. Nothing is added, not even water. So delicious and healthy! They offer many different flavors of juices like apple, blueberry, strawberry, kiwi etc. Veggie juices are also available. They deliver out of this shop as well. Anyway, this stuff is a smash hit with my friends, they can't get enough. If you have the chance to swing by, definitely do so. iF Juice will not dissapoint.... read more

I wish I had the ability to read to Chinese. That has to be my next goal in life. If I could read Chinese I could tell you a lot more about the Chinese National School of Administration. But now I am going to have to refer to hearsay. Our Prof. says that CNSA is THE school for top government officials in China. This is where Governors of provinces and top federal government guys get their education. And since China is only as good as its government... I took a walk across campus yesterday to take some pictures. Have a look! Yesterday we had two corporate visits. First, we had three presentations by the President of Royal Bank - China and two of his top executive. I will save you from the details. But it was ... read more

Beijing Tuesday April 27 After checking out of the hotel, our bags were loaded into a Audi A6 to takes us to Pudong Airport. On arrival e were quickly checked in at the Air China First Class desk, and given our Boarding pass for CA933 to Beijing. After completing security, we were taken by an a electric golf cart through the huge terminal to the Air China lounge. It would have been a very long walk otherwise! The lounge was fairly basic, but sufficient, it was really just a part of the terminal that had been close off on an upper floor, filled with seats and a refreshment area. Soon boarding call was announced, and we made our way to the gate for boarding. Today we were flying on an Airbus A330-400, and we were seated ... read more

In a little while I will be off to Wutaishan for the night and back tomorrow. I should have lots of pictures although we are only going to the main shrine in the valley and not planning to go up to any of the individual five peaks. More tomorrow....... read more

I just finished a two hour lecture at the Minzu University with 45 minutes after that for questions. There were about 200 students in attendance. It was also translated into Chinese so I actually only worked for half that time. I came up with an entire new lecture which we can use as the basis for the HAR curriculum. I am dead tired and just got back to the hotel. I haven't eaten since lunch and didn't have any breakfast this morning. I meet with Luding Khenpo for lunch at approximately 11:00 tomorrow morning and after that we leave for Wutaishan, a six hour drive. We will be back in Beijing on Wednesday night. I have some running around to do on Thursday and looking at more art. Friday morning I leave early, about 6:00, for ... read more

Hola! My last and final entry of my travelblog as I returned home last saturday and facing the expected huge jetlag! Our departure from Ussuriysk, Russia, was a pretty early one but that didn't matter as we all wanted to head out the country asap and enter China just as quickly :o The busride itself was a pretty comfy one with mainly russians and chinese, and 3 dutchies! Thanks to the very thoughtful guide who helped us filling out all the details on the exit/entry forms minutes before arriving at the border. It took us about 2 hours waiting before we were allowed to make our way through customs, it went pretty quickly afterwards as we received a special foreigner treatment! We were picked out of the massive queue and after a thorough examination of our ... read more

We have just arrived at our hotel located in Beijing, Chaoyang district. It is a very long day. We woke up early and left Brossard at 5:00 AM. We arrived in Chicago at 8:30 AM local time and took off to Beijing at 13:00. Flying time is about 12:30 going via great circle i.e. GreenBay, Thunder Bay, Hudson Bay, around North Pole, Siberia, Mongolian Plateau, Inner Mongolia and finally Beijing. The plane arrived 45 minutes in advance but the time to clear health check, immigration is about 90 minutes. In fact, when the plane arrived, everybody must stay inside the cabin waiting for 2 Chinese health officers to measure the temperature of each person since they are afraid of H1N1 virus. When we get out there is a girl and a guy waiting for us since ... read more
