Day36
After feeling all templed out we left Siam reap and headed for Sihanoukville (The ville). We were up bright and early (6 am) to catch the bus to Phenom Penh and then on to the Ville. After a non-eventful 10 hour bus trip we had arrived. Unfortunately, the weather was poor, windy and raining so much that is already dark at 6 pm. We jumped on a moto each and headed for a cheap guesthouse with hot water.
We had a quite evening watching a really shithouse movie a comedy about a dwarf/midget, the only thing entertaining was watching him run. (you can imagine it if you try)
Day 37
Hallelujah after a torrential night of rain the clouds had rolled away to beautiful blue sky. We decided to get a cheaper and better guesthouse and we found one in the tranquility GH, $8 with a fan and cold water but the beachside location is sensational. After we checked in to our new beachfront guesthouse we hit the beach. After a swim in the warm water we succumbed to the haggling beauticians desperate to give us pedicures (why you would want to touch Jez's feet I don't know!). Next
Carly made the most stupid decision of the day... agreeing to a "plucking" a technique the local cambodians use for hair removal with a piece of cotton! Painful, incredibly painful and an excruciatingly long process. The only bonus was the ladies did stop coming up to me rubbing my hairy legs!
We had some fantastic BBQ seafood at Moonshake beachside bar and restaurant which ended up becoming our local!
However, we were just a bit too pumped up. In all the commotion of beach hawkers selling bracelets, lobster, fruit and the excitement of being at the beach we both unfortunately missed a few bits of exposed skin. Jez's back and carly's chest left the beach a little burned.
Day 38
Being a slow Sunday morning not much was happening so we hit the nearby Fortuna Casino. We budgeted to lose $10 and hit the $2 minimum blackjack table. All seemed to be going well with Carly winning more than losing and Jez somewhere more on the losing side after about 10 hands. We were doing well considering we only had $5 each. Then in a moment of what Carly may call "çraziness'', Jez had a good feeling about
a perfect pair. Jez said "no pairs yet i think it's due", and put his third last dollar on. Sure enough a pair of twos, paying 10 to 1. We were now rolling in cold hard cash and from this moment on in combination with a change of dealer, Jez's confidence and fortune soared. Unfortunately for Carly, her luck turned for the worst and she lost all her money to gamblor.
First we were 20 bucks up, "ok Carls last $5 bet" resulted in blackjack!!!! Then after a few wins and loses we were at $30 up and Carly pleading for Jez to leave "thats a lot of money in cambodia" However, Jez did not wish to whimp out and had the feeling he could single handedly "sink the casino". Next stop back to $20 up and once again on his final $5 bet. BLACKJACK!!!!!!, then again BLACKJACK, Jez was killin em. After a few minutes of resisting Carly's urges to leave i succumbed, up $40. (And happy!)
After being on a high Jez was quickly brought to ground as we went to the Fishermans Den sports bar and turned the television to Australia network were Melbourne were
Local gay bar???
I think it's called "the cockpit" taking on Adelaide. We had a quick schooner and left as it became apparent Melbourne were coping another flogging.
That afternoon was quite overcast but we hit the beach anyway, with due regard to cloud burn. (More nasty than sunburn cos you don't expect it).
That evening we headed out to Happa, the local japanese restaurant. We had a fantastic meal consisting of miso soup, vegetable fried rice and gyoza, and red snapper fillets with a Kyoreng sauce. After a couple of beers we headed home for an early night.
Day 39
Full moon party, the ville style (19th May)
This morning started off quite overcast so we stayed in knockin over some internet stuff. The afternoon cleared into a fantastic day so we both hit the beach, again. Over lunch we noticed two familar faces strolling the beach in Carl and Martha, so we spent the arvo swapping stories and chillin out on the beach. We also happened to run into Liz and Lisa and decided to meet up that night to have a crack at the full moon party.
Carl and Martha joined us for dinner at Sea Horse restaurant which served up Carly
a mighty hot curry, after more than a few beers, to quell the fire in her mouth we hit the beach for $2 Monkey buckets (A small bucket that contained alot of very low quality whisky, and a small amount of coke and red bull. The evening then deteriorated into a blur of dancin , drinkin and cow riding!!! (nice one Carls). However, the night was not done for Jez. For some reason at 5 am he went solo to the casino with $5 to his name. Quickly it turned to $10 on roulette, shortly turning it in to $45 whilst playing blackjack, yet to lose a hand. Unluckly the dealer ran out of cards, so he hit the roulette wheel. All in, red, red, $45 had turned to $90, $90 to $180 surely he could not lose. $180 turned then on the final roll turned into $0 on black. Bugger. Easy come easy go. Strangely, Jez walked away content that he had had great fun that only cost him $5.
Day 40
Hangover Day
We got up at 10.30 am for less than an hour only to return to bed till 3.30pm the consequence of extremely cheap
grog is an extremely big hangover. We eventually, dragged ourselves to the beach were we ran into Liz, Carl and Martha, and Allen and Sara whom we had met last night. Fortunately, all of them were suffering with the same monstrous hangover. After a hair of the dog, the hangover almost cleared (for some) and we hit the local cinema to check out a monty python film - The holy grail. Not to our taste we were almost the first out of there when it finished.
Given the excitement of the previous nights gambling Liz, Carl, Martha, Allan and Sara were keen to check out the casino. Unfortunately we could not replicate the likes of Jez the previous night, Jez now slightly ruing his appalling financial decision.
Day 41
Last Day at the Ville... we woke up to RAIN!! Shattered! After breaky we hit the net for Blogs, booking flights etc for later in the trip and by the time we finished the sun was out!
So we headed for the beach, for some swimming, frisbeein' and tubing'. The tube was a 6man cyclinder dragged behind a boat, after watching mainly only locals on it for days we
Carls reading Kokoda
Do yourself a favour, buy it. decided to give it a burl with Liz, Lisa and Lewis. After holding on the entire trip the dismount was ugly, our driver just let the rope go slack then BANG.. takes off and we all went flying onto of Carls head! Still not satisfied we bartered for another ride, with Jez and Lewis at the front we were guarenteed an earlier exit, after much rocking we were all flying to the water in fits of giggles!
After more swimming and frisbeein' the rain called an end to it again. So we went for take two, at Happa the Japanese Restaurant and met with the gang for last night drinks, in an attempt to stay up for the soccer UEFA Cup final(to be televised at 2.45am) only to call it quits at 1am, in a moment of clarity we realised we didn't really give a shit who won, and in lieu of the day ahead! The mammoth Bus trip to Ho Chi Minh City!
