Kampot is a sleepy little riverside town its pretty and peaceful. I stayed in a fairly new hostel called Jetzt and a girl who lives not far from me at home so we hung out together for a few days. The place we were staying was owned by three fun Swedish guys who really did everything to make sure their guests were happy I was very impressed. Walking along the river was really nice all lit up on both sides with brightly coloured bridges going over. We went and found a desert shop and pigged out on ice cream and cake. The first night a guest in the dorm decided to drink to much and throw up all over the place (gross) and while they cleaned the room they sent us back to the bar for ... read more

Geo: 11.5588, 104.917A day of contrasts today. Visited the gold opulence of the palace in the morning and then toured a village school in the afternoon. It was free time to start the day and as long as we were back by 11 Phnom Penh was ours. We scaled the stairs for a short walk to the local market to get some stationery for the school visit for LO_RI and a couple of SIM cards which for the princely sum of $5 will untether us from the boat's on again off again data services.Traffic negotiations were solved once again by stepping out and keeping going but a little different here because of the proliferation of cars and buses. But somehow it all seems to work.Back at the tuk tuk rank we were a little disappointed that car ... read more

Geo: 11.5588, 104.917No-one else heard it - but I did. At 4.17 am I was woken by monks chanting. I put on my robe and scurried out to the sundeck to see what was going on. It was pitch black and not another person was n sight. And despite everyone I have met today if they heard it - not one other soul has confessed to hearing the chanting. And continuing the theme of being on deck in PJs, got a call from Richard saying that the view from the front of the ship was worth the trip down the hallway. So once again, wrapped in the white AMA Lotus gown I was on deck. Despite assuring me that no-one was there, think that everyone from the third floor was out and had a comment about my ... read more

I came to the capital of Cambodia - Phnom Penh to learn more about the brutal history of the Khmer Rouge. The city is oriented at the confluence of the Tonle Sap and Mekong Rivers. It is an Asian city in every sense of the word. New and old clash here in a very unique cosmopolitan array of sights, sounds, smells, and interesting people going about their daily lives. It was a nice place to be even with my impending date with some of the tragic sites and museums I planned to visit whilst here. This city has left an indelible dark mark on my soul, one which unfortunately won't abate anytime soon. It was important for me to come here and witness first hand the history so I will not forget and can do my ... read more

Public bus today, to get across the border. So we were told we had to walk to the bus station, just round the corner, but our luggage would go by rickshaw. We walked and walked, not to the bus station, and it was obvious that our new "leader" didn't know were we were but assured us this park was the bus station, and no luggage. After 10 mins he talked to someone, and suddenly we had to hurry across the park, and there was the bus, we had to assume our luggage was on it. 3 hours later we got to the border, all our passports were taken off us on the bus, and we were led into cages within a warehouse! Had to stand in female and male lines and then waited for 40 mins. ... read more

Today was Angkor day and we knew it was going to be a long but fun day. We woke up really early as we were meeting everyone in the hotel lobby at 7:00am. Our tour guide told us that we needed to get to Angkor Wat as soon as it opens as it gets crowded quickly. They took us to the east gate as it was not crowded. We walked past the mote that surrounds Angkor Wat and then proceeded down a long tree lined path and then Angkor Wat suddenly appeared. It really is an impressive site and our tour guide did a great job of taking us to through the east gate as the sun was behind us and shinning on the buildings. We took a group photo and then got in line to ... read more

This morning we are off to Siem Reap, home of Angkor Wat. We had to wake up early and meet our group at 7:00am so we could catch out flight. We were flying on a small prop plane again but the flight only lasted about 40 minutes so it wasn't too bad. At least this time I got to look out the window. We arrived in Siem Reap and immediately were taken to a large park wth a temple. We say some bats in the trees and all learned how to fold lotus flowers. We then gave the flowers as an offering in the temple and made a wish. We then headed to lunch before the group split up with half going to the museum and the other half going to the hotel. I finally figured out why we are always waking up so early and heading out to visit temples or palaces. It is so cool in the mornings and our guide does not want us overheating so he schedules outdoor activities during the morning and tries to schedule museums or indoor activities in the afternoon. I am very grateful for that as it is so hot here. It actually is only in the mid 90's but with high humidity and no wind it is HOT! Our first stop this morning was the Royal Palace in Cambodia. The architecture of this Palace was definitely the prettiest I have seen so far on this trip. The buildings were just so beautiful I could not stop taking pictures. I may have posted too many of the palace but I was ... read more

Today we are off to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We are flying on Vietnam Airlines on an A320. I had asked at the counter for an aisle seat or exit row, but he said he didn't have any so I got stuck on a window seat with no window right in front of the exit row so my seat didn't recline. I guess the guy at the counter really didn't like me. Anyways it was only an 1.5 hour flight so it wasn't too bad, but it was a full flight. We all boarded our new bus in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and this is by far the nicest bus we've had so far on the tour. It has so much leg room it is amazing and everyone has two seats to themselves. It also has a great ... read more

A little over three years ago we visited Phnom Penh for the first time. Since then the city has undergone quite a transformation. New hotels have sprung up all over the place and there seems to be a proliferation of Sky Bars. We stayed at url=https://www.google.co.th/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.legrandmekong.com/&ved=0ahUKEwjkp8CeuJPSAhVMMY8KHZYLC-kQFgjsATAY&usg=AFQjCNFhfwO7W0c3PA7uuqDdsNxWV2V9pALe Grand Mekongwhich was very nice, but probably not grand. It did have a sky bar though, and we ate breakfast there each day with a magnificent view of the Mekong. Happy hour suited us well too, with beers buy one get one free. Even better deals were available for cocktails! When you have already done the main sites and museums, tuk tuk drivers constantly asking if you want to go to the "Killing Fields" gets... read more
