Rano pada rozhodnutie, presun do sihanoukville, tam dve noci a potom bud ostov koh rong abo nazad. Kupujem malu pizzu a plneny dost velky kolac. Vo familimarte davam kelinkove nudle. V prvom samoobsluznom ... read more

Sunday, 12th August 2018 This is our final morning in the city of Phnom Penh before our 3.25pm flight back to Singapore in the afternoon. Early morning, we wasted no time to head to the Central Market for breakfast. From one of the stalls at the edge of the market, we ordered yam cakes, baguettes and coffee to boost up our day. The market wasn't too overwhelmed with people at this time of the day as we soon realised in the afternoon. When we pop by for lunch later, it was filled with locals and tourists jostling for space. Anyway, after breakfast, we did not have too much time to wander about since we had to gather at the hotel lobby by 12pm for our transport to the airport. We did manage to pop by at ... read more

Saturday, 11th August 2018 At 8.30am, the sun was bright and sunny as 16 of us joined the cyclo tour to take in the architectural wonders of Central Phnom Penh. For the next 3 hours, the tour brought us to some of the most iconic buildings in the city including the Central Post Office, the China House as well as the quiet Railway Station. The guide was very informative as she shared with us stories of Cambodian history and political situation that corresponded to the period when the buildings were built. All in all, this was a very well-organised tour put together plus a very enjoyable cyclo ride around the city centre. Earlier in the morning, C and myself had woken up at 6.30am. We decided to hail a tuk tuk to the Olympic Stadium for ... read more

Friday, 10th August 2018 After breakfast at the hotel this morning, our tour bus came by to pick us up at 8.30am where we began our city tour of Phnom Penh. Barely 10 minutes into the journey, we had arrived at the first stopping point for the day, the imposing Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. For USD10, we were able to gain admission to the beautiful grounds dotted with healthy green lawns and immaculately kept gardens. The great thing about Phnom Penh is that the sights are within closed proximity to one another. There is no need to spend lots of time on the road before arriving at our destination. Within the grounds of the Silver Pagoda lies a mini Angkor Wat where we happily snapped loads of pictures of the beautiful model. It was ... read more

Thursday, 9th August 2018 More than 10 years ago, I was travelling by myself on this Jetstar flight 3K593 to meet my Cambodian friend, R at the Phnom Penh International Airport. Fast forward August 2018, there were more than 30 of us on this very same flight for our 4 Days 3 Nights retreat over the National Day long weekend. It was a last minute decision from my end to participate and I was really happy to be able to make it for this retreat. At the end of the 4 days, new friendships were forged and old friendships strengthened as we carved out our uniquely Phnom Penh experience. Our flight took off at 3+ in the afternoon from Changi International Airport. Flight time was about 95 minutes. As usual, I always find the leg room ... read more

Today was the by far the hardest day of my journey through South East Asia. We hired a tuk tuk for the afternoon taking us to the Killing Fields and Genocide Museum. Choeung Ek, one of 300 killing fields, is littered with the remains of the bodies that were taken under the turmoil of the Khmer Rouge regime. The unthinkable inhumanities that took place in Cambodia from 1975-1979 are sickening beyond belief. The sinister genocide is documented as one of the worst cases of mass massacres in history, resulting in approximately 3 million deaths. What really got me is that the fields are cleaned once every month, for the past 40 years, as the rain washes the soil to reveal the bones of the genocide victims. I felt deeply disturbed by the Angkar’s inhuman acts on ... read more

Overnight the temperatures had dropped as rain thundered down on the roof above us, sadly by morning it hadn’t made a difference to the humidity and as we walked down the road looking for some breakfast we had already started to seep water from everywhere. Woolly says – For a small cost it seemed much more sensible to grab a tuk tuk and at least arrive at our first destination able and dry enough to enjoy it. As we sped past market stalls and some lovely French colonial buildings I was delighted to see that trees lined the pavements giving shade and a much needed absorbance for the carbon monoxide in the environment. As we pulled into the side of the road I jumped out and trotted over to admire the building on the ... read more
