Hey hey peeps, sorry its been a while, but we've been mad busy, busy people you see!!!
Well to be honest finding an internet cafe in Hong Kong was a nightmare, but we are dedicated and have located one in a dingy floor...just for you guys! Right so when we last left you we were getting ready to hit the road (again!) on our way to Cambodia.
This travelling business is not easy you know...like a flipping 9-5 but with lugging a 15kg bag on your back! We arrived in Siem Reap at 8 PM after 12 hours on 2 buses and hours at the Vietnam/Cambodia border. Again all the Vietnamese got priority. We arrived first and left last.
I was officially the last person across the border...not impressed So anyway our bus driver decided to show the town centre and drive 6 KM away and drop us in a dark alley with loads of drunken Cambodians rushing onto the bus trying to force us to get their tuk-tuk. We were quite lucky as there were 3 other westerners on the bus with us and we all stuck together and walked (out of priciple) to the town, backpacks and
all.
Ordinarily we would have paid the $1 tuk tuk driver but we were so hacked off that it was out of principle we walked 5km with our bags on our bags to find accommodation The funny and determined tuk-tuk drivers followed us for at least 4 km begging us to go with them. $1 for 5 people but we still said no just out of principle...!!! Crazy right!
Siem Reap....well its a nice town, but the first thing you notice it that everything and I mean everything is in Dollars! Which means, super cheap South East Asia isnt so cheap anymore. Things start approaching normal western prices! The second thing you notice is the flipping heat...I mean WOW! Its beyond hot here, we are talking 40+ and 99%!h(MISSING)umidity. You have a shower with ice, walk 33 seconds and your soaked through again. Kind of annoying but when you see each and every other person sweating the same, you dont feel so scuzzy anymore (even the locals).
For a girl, this was disgusting...i just could not sweating and i had sweat patches just like Jit's...his and hers sweat patches...we are so attractive! And the third thing you notice
are the smiling people. Everyone is so friendly and they all speak imaculet English. They all want to have a laugh and talk to tourist. Its just such a great vibe. We met up with the Frenchies, Veronique and Jean Marc, who again provided us with loads of entertainment. We spent most nights with them on Bar street, yup thats right Bar street getting cheap beer down us and eating some wicked Khmer food. We even had a few bevvies in the Red Piano, the joint owned by Angelina Jolie.
Its was time to see the majestic Angkor Wat, which are supposidly the biggest and oldest hindu temples in the world. We aint really into our temples but seen as these are considered world wonders,
and lets not forget Hindu we thought why not. We went the day before for the suntset and it was a super sweaty climb to the top of a mini hill. We got to the top so see a less than average sunset, but the ruin's we had to climb gave us a glimpse into what was waiting for us the next day. The views were breathtaking.
I would like to mention here this is sweating like you have never experienced before, imagine a bucket of water being poured on you and this was Jit and Kay without the bucket of water. So we were up bright and early...well it was still dark actually as we wanted to see the sun rise over the Angkor. Ken our great tuk tuk driver picked us up at 5 in the morning and we headed for the Wat and what a sight it was. Seeing the sun creep over this temple which is thousands of years old...Truly majestic. One of those moments which makes us glad we took the plunge and did this trip. We then had breakfast in the Wat and spent the day going to a few more of the bigger famous temples. The greatest one was Angkor Thom which featured in Tomb Raider the movie. Its were the jungle is smashing up the temple and trees and vines are growing everywhere. It really does look like something from a film set. What a great sight.
The only annoying factor here was the Vietnamese tourists. These people do not believe in queuing and waiting for a picture shot, no they kindly move you out the way or ruin your picture so they can go first. I swear to you even the Pope would lose patience with these people.
We made friends with a little street seller who was 13 (but looked about 7) who duped me into buying a book at $4 as he beat me at rock, paper and scissors. Such a funny little guy. Oh and me and Jean Marc almost died when a concrete roof tile probably 3 foot long smashed down a hit his arm and my knee (ouch). It must of weighed 20KG. And lucky for me I moved seat about a minute before. If I had stayed where I was, I would have cracked my head open!
and for once in his life Jit is not exaggerating...this is very true and it was very scary because the worst could of happen...funny though later but not at the time. The worst thing was that the owners did not even give Jit and Jean Marc a free drink...honestly! It was then onto Phnom Pehn the capitol of Cambodia. We visited the Killing fields and the Genocide museum to learn a little about what happened here. Its quite dark seeing
at 2 million odd people were killed in 5 years. Thats 1/4 of the entire population. Anyway it was an eye opener but I dont really want to go into too much detail...a bit to dark, even for me. On a light side, me and KK47
my new nickname for those that don't get it shot an AK47, which was amazing.
The gun guy had to stand behind me as the shots propelled me back in the opposite directions...powerful little suckers Such power. Great fun!!! We also spent way too much on shopping at the Russian Market but hey its all good.
We caught a flight to Bangkok and spent three more days with my cousin Vip. A little more shopping....hey who can blame us! And Vip showed us a wicked time, hitting the town. We landed in Bangkok at 5pm, hit the first bar at 9pm, then this amazing rooftop bar (Long Table) which is only for A-listers at 11.
This club did not consist of a long table but was high above the Bangkok skyline, had an infinity pool overlooking the Bangkok night skyline and no table. Then Bed, this amazing night club at 1, then Park
Bridge an underground type club at 3 finally calling it a very drunken night at 6 in the morning. Bangkok sure knows how to party. A big thank you to Vip and his hospitality, he is a true legend!!!
Thank you Mr Vip! Anyway folks, until next time, Stay Sexy....Far East here we come!!!
Mwa!
