Ok, so the blogs stopped for awhile, and its taken me some time to get back into even being motivated. After believing I had found the love of my life in Ben, I came home to heartbreak, which doesn't need to be aired on here, but lets just say its knocked the wind out of me and knocked me off my feet, and while I am still healing, I am ready to start writing again... I apologise in advance that the blogs may not be as funny, exciting or detailed like normal.. but its been awhile since I experienced the adventure and with the wind knocked out of me the world doesnt seem so bright.. but lets give this a go! Up bright and early it was time for Danni and I to move on from Phnom Penh.. As sad as the place can be, I have to admit that over the past three visits to this city, it really has grown on me… there are some fabulous restaurants and during the day it can be quite a pretty city along the riverfront. Upon heading for our bus, all the tuktuk guys that sit out the front of Blue Lime started yelling to us ‘there’s Sambo there’s Sambo’ .. we turned around to see Sambo up the end of the alley… Teasing all the boys, we yelled out to Sambo “Bye Sambo… See you next time” in little girly voices… He would have blushed I am sure.. and the boys all got a good giggle out of ... read more

Seeing I had a bit of time on my hands I decided to follow the coast and ended up leaving Sinville under the same rain cloud I had arrived under and my travels took me to the charming town of Kampot with it's ageing French buildings, a little bit more in-land and set on a river. Famed for it's pepper and it's easy relaxed atmosphere there is not so much to do here except to sit in one of the many bars set on the riverbanks and yes you've guessed it, watch a sunset. On my first day I hired a bike and cycled round the town, infact it was so small I ended up cycling around a good few more times and the second I hired me a tuk tuk and went off to explore ... read more

Kampot and it's sister city Kep are very unassuming lazy little towns on the Cambodian South Coast. Famous they are for Peppercorns and to some degree salt. The town only has a few guesthouses and bars but all of them arre very nice as is the town. We started our day there taking an evening sunset boat cruise (sort of) that included BBQ Prawns, red wine and cheeze and crakers. It was to say the least charming and a nice try but we had a great time as we were the only two on the little boat with a captian, mate and his two kids. I always have a difficult time eating anything that still has it's eyes on it and it took a few days to digest those prawns. The view was stunning and we ... read more

Cela ... read more

4 or so hours later we arrived in Kampot. We were bombarded with tuk-tuk drivers and hotel touts competing for our business with the only other tourist on the bus made a quick escape. We agreed to go with one guy to see a hotel, but after seeing it decided to take a look at the one we had picked out of the guidebook which turned out to be nicer – Orchid Guesthouse. We had our own little wooden bungalow with two big beds and a bathroom. It was quite cute. We took advantage of the very rusty but free bicycles offered by the guesthouse and cycled round town. We stopped off at the Rusty Keyhole for some food. Back in Laos we had been tipped by another English couple that the ribs here were amazing ... read more

After a big night it was a relaxing day touring the countryside with Rob, a dutchman who was one of our fellow travellers up Bokor and on the sunset cruise. Rob had organised a tuk tuk for the day and invited us to join him. First stop was a cave with temple inside, bit of a non event as I had left my torch back at the hotel and didn't fancy scrambling through the unknown in the darkness. I am surprised that none of the dozen or so kids that came from no-where to be our 'guide' had worked out that a torch might give them an advantage. It was then a long ride to a pepper plantation which in itself is some what under whelming but the journey there was fantastic. We really saw cambodian ... read more

A quiet day with a final swim at the pool. We will miss not having a pool for the next few days but should be busy enough that we wouldn't use it much. We transferred to the Rikitikitavi by Tuk Tuk, a great 30 minute ride through the countryside. We stopped to pick up the drivers son on the way to drop him to school, it still amazes me to see all the kids dressed in their uniforms (clean white shirt and navy shorts or skirts) despite the fact that at other times they can look so untidy and dirty. The Riki is in a great location right on the river with great staff, good rooms, soft bed and a great bar/restaurant upstairs looking out over the river. After lunch we headed out for a walk ... read more

A discarded plastic water bottle has an average lifespan of 5 minutes on the streets of Kampot before it is transformed into a Lucite hockey puck and added to the others already in the bag. An army of human ants scours every square inch of town looking for recyclable materials. The work goes on 24/ 7. Karen and I were walking back to our hotel after a late dinner. We passed an old woman pushing a large wooden, bicycle wheeled cart before her. The cart was piled high with bottles and cardboard and crushed aluminum cans. A flash of heat lightning galvanized the night, picking out a small girl sitting in the midst of the cart's debris. My Princess of the pile. You could read books under your bedclothes with a smile like hers. But I ... read more

We got up early the next day to catch the bus to Kampot at 8, which was no fun with a pretty bad hangover - reminded why we don't usually do that. Luckily, it only took 2 hours by mini bus, but unfortunately I couldnt sleep, because the Swedish guy next to me was very eager to talk. In Kampot we found a room for 4$ at Cozy Elefant, nice and cozy place as the name states and it has free bicycles! We found out that our plan once again was impossible. Bokor Hill Station had been closed off along with the national park, so it was no longer possible to go there on our own, there were only tours for a whole day and on top of that they had modernised the place and would ... read more
