Who knew a bicycle tumble could make its way into 3 blogs..........??
Eight days after my tumble, my foot is still swollen and uncomfortable to walk on so I finally paid a visit to the hospital to get the foot checked and xray’d. It turns out that at some stage in years gone by, I’ve broken 3 bones in my foot and never had them treated.....they believe they were broken at different times, but I can only recall one time when I dropped something on the arch of my foot and it’s been sensitive ever since. I didn’t think at the time that I’d broken it though..... Anyway, what I’ve managed to do this time is “traumatise” the previously broken bones and some the ligaments – thankfully it’s not broken this time. So, my foot is in a brace for 2 – 3 weeks and should be fine for Europe – yea. I’m not allowed to ride the bike though.....or walk too much.....so I’ve pretty much got to take it easy for awhile...I will try....BUT
I’ve never been a patient in an overseas hospital before and today was so different to what I was expecting......ie.
I walked into Emergency and it was more like a 5-star hotel reception, and I was greeted accordingly. I completed the mandatory paperwork and was shown to the waiting area, where I had great big comfy lounges to sit on....again, like a 5-star hotel. The thing that amazed me was the fact that I was the only person in the ER.....I had the place to myself. I was promptly called into the consulting area by a nurse in a 1960’s style starched, white uniform complete with the old-style 3 point nurses hat......I felt like I’d stepped back in time...... I saw the doctor, had the xrays and was told that as they had to send my xrays to Bangkok for review, that I would have a 45min wait for the results, and that I could wait in a second lounge area where there was free hot chocolate, coffee and computers......what the??!! No wonder I was paying (well my insurance will be) through the nose for my visit....
The rest is history...I’m pleased that I haven’t done too much damage and that I don’t have to have a cast on my leg....it would be disgustingly dirty in a
day over here......everywhere is dusty, very very dusty, as the roads are wrecked after the floods and they’re just dust-bowls due to the dry season being upon us.
On another note, I had to say farewell to Sara today as she’s heading home. We had a great morning of pedicures (the place we go has very talented staff and they’re so friendly which is great...oh and the LadyBoy is rather entertaining), shopping, and then back to Sara’s guest house for the final packing of her backpack (who knew you could fit SO much stuff in those bags!!), lunch and then sad farewells. She’s such a lovely lady, I will miss her so much...
After school, I headed to the hospital and the rest is history as they say.......
Bye for now from Siem Reap, hugs....Rob

Both in the wars
You poor thing with your foot but luckily it's not broken. Wishing you a speedy recovery. My return to Brissy has been good and bad. Good because it was great to return and the weather has been mild. Bad because I thought i would be over jet lag by the Monday to start my new job but unfortunately no. At first everything was ok at work but as it's a brand new job the systems weren't in place yet and I was trained on a temporary system full of errors. Then they tried to train me on another system also not 100% so i felt totally overwhelmed. I had a massive panic attack at 3am Wednesday and couldn't go in. Bill took me to the Dr who prescribed some meds for my anxiety which I've always had but treated by basically running away from stressful situations. She also wants me to work with a psycologist down the track. I'm so disappointed because I really wanted to return to work at the same place. Anyway, we'll see what the new year brings when I'm hopefully back on track. Consequently I haven't been following your blog lately. Hope you're still enjoying the school. The hospital experience sounded very nice considering. Take care, stay safe and lots of hugs to you. Sylvi xo
