Burma has really captured our attention. We’ve spent 16 nights and 17 days exploring and feel like we have seen a good bit of the country. We are told it has grown leaps and bounds politically, with the country starting to move away from 50 years of strict military rule. This may be reflected in the recent visit by President Obama and earlier in the year by Hillary Clinton, sure signs that thing... Read Full Entry

Shakin'
I'm pretty sure there was a quake at 10 pm though it's true there was only one other hotel guest who felt it, must have been a baby one. I have never been happier to wake up so early in the morning and leave town.

Maybe you were having a nightmare.
You got your exercise! Loved traveling with you.

The Road to Mandalay
When will you ever stop! We're truly inspired by your energy and sense of adventure - and the extent of this particular trip into the unknown. Sadly I don't think we could leave our house unattended for that long any more and we limit our own adventures to just a few weeks at a time. David

Hello David and Janice,
We laughed at your posting because we are very tired. We slept 12 hours last night. We are now nearing the end of our trip and will be moving at a much slower pace as we are now on the beaches of the Philippines. Currently we do not own a house. Our life is in a storage unit. We hope to buy a house next year once we go back to work. In 2007 we traveled for 10 months and it was too long. This time we traveled for 5 months and again it was too long. Next time we do this we will stay in each town much longer, have a home base and do day trips. That will not be any time soon. We have seen the most amazing things. It will take a few months to absorb. We are looking forward to following your travels. We have 3 weeks in the Philippines, less than one week in Hawaii, back to the states for Christmas and to Cuba for two weeks. Then back to work. Keep in touch and happy travels.

How did they build these?

On the off chance thay my ironing caused a quake...
I've told Dave I won't take the chance in the future! So many amazing things to see in Burma. It is unspoiled.

you're safe!
Glad you are safe and sound and on your way to the next wonderful adventure. What a magnificent place and thank you for sharing. A perfect way to end my Thanksgiving holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Burma was all we hoped it would be. It still has that raw and unspoiled beauty that one hopes for. I doubt it will be that way much longer but time will tell. The people are sincerely friendly and kind. Glad we got a glimpse of their life.

Thanks for enlightening all of us on that part of the world!
Loved the iron story, and was totally amazed on the number of monks and realization that many would steadfastly stick to that lifestyle and the patient waiting for thier one meal. Thank you for teaching me a little about that part of the world.

Hi Carol,
It is amazing to learn about other religions and how dedicated and strong in their beliefs and lifestyle. It is a very different world from the one we live in. Yes, that will teach me to iron!

Quakes!
There are other natural disasters that I prefer. If I were picking I'd take one that provides more warning.
