Simple Lunch In the Park ...

... traveling from Georgia to Azerbaijan made for a long-ass day, involving a short taxi ride to the Telavi bus station, a 2.5 hour marshrutka ride to the Azerbaijan border, crossing the border by foot, a taxi ride from the border to Zaqatala, a 2 hour marshrutka ride to Sheki, then a 15 minute uphill walk from the bus station to the hotel. All in all, it was about a 7 or 8 hour travel day - by the time I checked in and did a quick tour around town, lunch didn't come until 6 PM local time. I stuck with a simple tomato and cucumber salad, so as not to spoil my dinner in a few hours time. I skipped the basil, as it was obvious by the holes in the leaves that bugs had already feasted on it before I did.

Incredible Carrot Salad at Celebi Xan ...

... wanting something different, I ordered this shredded carrot salad, not expecting it to be so good. I don't know what it was, but the simple sweet dressing was delicious with the carrots, which had a nice natural sweetness of their own. With the huge basket of excellent bread, this could have been a light meal on its own.

Only the Beginning ...

... the carrot salad at Celebi Xan only hinted at the delectable delights to come. Relying on the waiter for suggestions, I ended up with way too much food but still managed to cram most of it down. Juicy chunks of lamb, and an Adana kebab, a spicy Turkish-style minced meat skewer. I don't know which one was better, as the Azeris seem to also be masters of grilled meat, with both dishes having a great smoky flavour. Both were served with sliced onions and sumac, which seem to accompany all grilled meats in this country. The roasted potatoes were a tad plan, but the roasted tomatoes were fantastic - the tomato flavour was so intense, that eating it was like tasting a warm, delicious tomato paste.

1080 os a Arial Chemical application to get rid of the Possum problem in the Area but People say it caused to much collateral damage all kind of other things... and would probably get into the food-chain via the Livestock....

Ban 1080

People lobbying to ban 1080 which is an Chemical applied via Aerial application to take care of an increasing Possum problem but causes some collateral damage and ending up eventually in the Food-chain via Livestock.... I have to agree after hearing both sides of the arguments...
