We headed off for our Shakespeare experience in Stratford-upon-Avon. One the way, we visited several beautiful villages in the Cotswolds; Lower Slaughter, Upper Slaughter, Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Camden, and Snowshill. All had their individual charm. We particularly liked Lower Slaughter and Snowshill. We arrived at Stratford-upon-Avon in the early afternoon and visited Shakespeare’s birthplace and his tomb in Holy Trinity Church. We also walked through Hall’s Croft, the home he gave his daughter and her husband, a local physician. We then had dinner in a pub where the first recorded was in 1733.... read more

Today we went to Villa Guila, the museum devoted to etruscan art. We learned how the Etruscans influenced the Romans and the Greeks. We saw many artifacts that were all found in cemeteries in Italy. But the artifacts are mostly from Greece, because all of these people traded often. Some of the artifacts were illegally in the US and Switzerland, they got there because of grave diggers. I got sick today after the museum, I paid 50 euro for a doctor to make a house call to my hotel. He told me that I had a stomach virus and gave me a shot in the butt, I felt better immediately then took a nap and shower. After, I met everyone for dinner and tomorrow we are going under St. Peters. Caio, a domani!... read more

One of my friends and I signed up for a guided tour to Warwick Castle and Stratford-upon-Avon, the home of William Shakespeare which is about 2 hours north of where I live by bus. It turned out to be a pretty good deal. Warwick Castle was really cool and the surrounding countryside was beautiful. I was very click-happy with my camera that day! So I picked just a few of what I took to put up here. Warwick Castle is run by the same company that runs Madame Tussauds, which is a very famous wax sculpture museum, so Warwick has several exhibits now that feature rooms replicated to the late 1800's or to medieval times complete with very detailed wax sculptures of historical figures. We only saw one of these exhibits because as we entered the ... read more

Last Wednesday Thursday and Friday my ASE group went to Stratford-upon- Avon to see some Shakespeare plays and the town. It was a lovely time and I really enjoyed most of our time there. some of the highlights included - Seeing Shakespeare's Birthplace - Researching at the RSC achieves for Love's Labour's Lost - Seeing Mid Summer Nights Dream at the Courtyard theater - Warwick Castle - Seeing Love's Labours Lost with David Tennant!!!!! My favorite play was Love's Labours Lost because of the witty banter back and worth and because the women get the last word in the play! We also had a great time at Warwick Castle where we got to see everything from peacocks to wax figures of Winston Churchill (kinda creepy actually). There was a Trebuchet, a dungeon, a falconry, and battlements... ... read more

Day 108 After missing two trains, we finally arrived in Stratford upon Avon the home of William Shakespeare. We'd arranged bike hire for the day, which we waiting for us at the station. We set off in the brilliant sunshine for the Shakespeares Birthplace. We parked our bikes and wandered the cobblestone street amidst the old buildings to Shakespeare birthplace set in the centre of town. An introduction into Shakespeares family, his affluent and influential father and his 8 brothers and sisters and their home which doubled as a John Shakespeares (a glover or glovemakers) workshop set in beautiful gardens. After a brief but packed tour of the house, including the birthroom of Shakespeare (signed by masses of other famous writers, actors and parliamentarians) we were back on the road. From here we headed out of ... read more

Day 2 - Tuesday 26th August It was up and at them early for our trip to Hampton Court. First point of order was handing out the fines. I feel sorry for the Orange Emus, their guys get fined for anything - I predict they’ll have no money by the end of the trip. Of course Buddy was fined for being late, a massive 5 pound - fines are only 50 pence - as well as a fine for leaving his bag at the pre tour dinner. A break from tradition inspired by the Emus was daily changing of the sheriff, this was a first for Bob Lollback who’s always Sheriff and has never been fined. With that the day got underway with our new Sheriffs Lynne and Amanda who promptly set things in motion to ... read more

Heh everyone, well I am now in Stratford and killing time till I catch a bus to Broadway which doesn't leave till 12.10 pm. It is raining now but hopefully will clear. This trip so far has been BIG! and I can't describe just how wonderful the people have been to me so far. Mandy and Mark from Kilwinning up in Scotland were just wonderful. I will always remember our afternoon in Blackpool! Poor Amanda had to put up with me sneezing and snifffling all the way from Scotland to Stratford! Can't leave out Tony and Lori also who went out of their way to make me welcome. Then there was David in Stirling who drove me all over the place one afternoon. All these people will never look at a black and white cow or ... read more

My first English wedding took place this weekend in Stratford -upon-Avon - Shakespeare’s country. OK, OK, I admit it, it's only half English - Terry is an Aussie, but Jai is definitely an English rose (who once got asked out by Russell Brand!). It was lovely, and I got to wear a hat - which was fun. (although there was a disappointing number of hats among the 'English' half of the guests). The 'wedding festival' was an extravaganza. Brigid and I drove down on Friday night to meet the 'advance crew' at the hostel which was hired in its entirely for the Saturday night to accommodate the wedding party, with the ceremony to take place in the grounds. We had a delicious diner in the pub across the road, staying there until the staff pretty much ... read more

Hi there everyone! Will and I are now officially back in Canada. We arrived last night after spending a long 8.5 hours in the air plus an additional hour for a stopover in Montreal. But, overall the flight was pretty good! Surprisingly neither one of us slept for more than half an hour the entire time. We were kept awake by the movies that were playing as well as by sheer excitement! Our plans for the summer include doing as much wedding planning as possible so that it makes it easier to plan the rest from overseas! Hopefully we can see as many people as possible while we're home for these 5 weeks. The day before we left England we hired a car with our friend Kath and went back to visit Stratford-Upon-Avon. We've been there ... read more
