Plop! Oh, no! What was that? What was that thud? What just landed on my bed in the middle of the night? Should I just not move and see if it goes away? Was I dreaming? Hey! It moved, I felt something and heard it too! Ok, have to reach out from under the covers and turn the light on... Click. Nothing. Plop! Plop! Yes! There it is! Phew! Not a snake falling on my bed after all! A frog, trapped in the lampshade! After dismantling the shade and throwing the slimy, bug-eyed creature out of the window into the tropical garden, I tried to get back to sleep. Mission impossible. The neighborhood dogs have decided to have a loud and obnoxious noise-fest and the mad-men have decided to join in too... just another peaceful ... read more

Instead of passively being beaten, it is better to take the initiative directly to that third party to talk about them. I believe you will be very curious what the other is a kind of person. The relationship between a woman is very subtle, particularly in the situation like you. While the hesitation, but as long as one of the parties make the first step, it is easy to obtain relieved and communication. The same for the woman, the person may understand your feelings, and admiration for your courage. But, unfortunately, if you had to suffer an arbitrary or unreasonable third parties may also wish to show your courage and despot. Since there must be a decision, then the three men had to make choices without any escape route. Of course, we are all adults, they ... read more

Two sleeps to go before the big trip and I'm not sure if I am more excited or nervous!! I have started packing tonight so I just have to finish that, and of course, all the usual running around to get everything in order before I leave. I deliberately chose a smaller suitcase because I don't want to be hauling a massive thing around Europe with me but I think I must have been hallucinating at the time and mistaken the size of my close for those of pixies, as the socks, undies and toiletries have already taken up most of the room!!! Should have stuck with the G strings as you suggested Michelle!!! I am, however, determined to keep the smaller case, so will have to rethink what I pack (either that or wear most ... read more

Another season on the ice - Antarctica. This year I got to visit a few more places. I spent 1/2 day dive tending, I am sure glad that I am not SCUBA diving in Antarctica. No full face head gear is used. I also was awarded with a trip to the South Pole (sleigh ride). My feelings is that the flight there and back, seeing the sights along the way was more rewarding than actually setting foot at the South Pole. A bit later, I got to go for a snow mobile trip up Mount Erbuis (a room with a view). Overall this season turned out very nice, with some beautiful outdoor sights. And on my very last day, along the road I came across a lonely Penguin.... read more

DISCLAIMER Sorry for the lack of travel blog entries....I have had a difficult time spending time on computers to record my travels. Soon to come... (who knows when); SPAIN~PORTUGAL (Grenada) (beach in Portugal-London flight....forget London...on to India!) INDIA (rishikesh) (high north) (Ramana's Garden Orphanage) NEPAL: (stuck due to strike breakouts) (Ama Ghar~home for children in Kathmandu) THAILAND: (meeting with Evan in Bangkok, on to Laos! I am currently in Vang Vieng Laos with Evan. Today we swam in cave pools, biked around..everywhere...trekked around the valley near steep, protruding jungle (Indiana Jones) mountains. We have seen the king of Thailand, a dead guy, a sculpture park with 7 story high sculptures of many Buddhist and Hindu Gods, got our first Thai massage! -and many other random things.... ...I don't know when I will be home... read more

It St Patricks Day so I had an Ireland rugby shirt on!! After two days going up the Beagle channel and then across the Drake's passage, which was extremely kind to us and so was nick named the "Drake Lake". We arrive at the Russian base at Bellinghausen, on the south shetland islands in the afternoon and it is decided there is time for a quick landing to look around and stretch the legs. We get on the zodiacs, I was in the first one!! Not that I was so excited like a little kid or anything! The temperature is abou 5C, but it always seemed warm as we had thermals, fleeces, coats, hats and gloves. Notice it is relatively far North so very little snow about in the photos. Antarctica - Background So, Antarctica....the White Continent....the Seventh Continent, the Cold Continent (I made the last one up)....but more importantly, for me anyway, it would be my home for the next 11 days. But what can I tell you about the place to kick things off? Well: -Over 99% of Antarctica is covered with ice, which equates to approx 90% of world's fresh water -It holds record for coldest (-89C) and windiest place (320km/hr) on earth (hopefully this record would still stand after my trip) -If it's ice sheets melted, the world's oceans would rise by 60-65 metres (not good folks) 'That is all very impressive' I hear you say 'but will you get to see penguins and polar bears?'...and what's that?...you want more facts?...seriously? ok... -Of all the Continents, it is the most isolated ... read more

Today we get aup at 3am to catch a 5 hour flight to Ushuaia ... there is not a lot of news today! Otherthan for those of you who are nervous of flying should give this a miss as the landing in Ushuaia was pretty horrendus as it was very cloudy, you get the odd glimpse of snowy mountain tops in amongst the cloud and then the plane drops and bucks and then there is the sea - full of white caps! It seems to take an age to get down to ground and then suddenly it all clears and we see the sea and pray that the runway is on the coast !! We land safetly in a howling gale and its freezing - we are at the bottom of the world. Now Antarctica is ... read more

Sorry had to go sort our next leg out with the travel agent. We leave for Arequippa, Lake Titicaca, Cuzo and Macchu Picchu tomorrow morning. So where was I...? I forgot to say that when we arrived on the boat we discovered that one of the expedition staff was a friend from NZ who I hadn't seen in 5 years, Anjali. I helped her with some research diving 10 yrs ago when she was doing her PhD. See I can go to the bottom of the world and still find someone I know!!! Five degrees of separation is alive and well :) Neko harbour was also the site of the antarctic swim for those hardy souls who could manage it. Only one girl was brave enough and Marty took it one step further by skinny dipping. ... read more
