In the previous blog, I listed the numerous organizations who have received donations from our family and friends. In this blog, I have posted pictures from one "donation blitz" trip taken with my employer, Talent Youth Association. I wanted to donate many of the school supplies and teacher aides to schools that cannot easily obtain items from other sources.

Living in Ethiopia for the year, we, the Kulbis family, have been awed and amazed by many things but among the most significant impressions has been the deep generosity of our friends and families in the US. We have been humbled by the donations and sincerely thank those who sent us donations to distribute to the needy here. We have taken the role of distributing your generous donations very seriously and have tried our best to allocate the items most effectively to folks who have limited options of receiving help from other sources. We pooled together donations received from home, primarily from Riverside, Chicago-Lithuanians, the Matulaitis Catholic Mission in Lemont, and Accenture co-workers. Here are the organizations whose individuals who have benefitted from your kindness:
for the significant time, expense, and efforts in collecting, packing, and sending the items to us for distribution.

For context, Ethiopia is the tenth poorest country in the world (per UNDP HDI 2006) with most people surviving on less than $2 a day. During our year of working, schooling, and volunteering, we have encountered many heart-wrenching situations due to the desperation and challenges of poverty.
