Hopefully we have not bored you all with these picture but taking two 11 month old lion cubs out for their evening walk adds a totally surreal dimension to a Sunday afternoon stroll. The pictures really speak for themselves, we were both blown away by the experience. The Lions are walked in the game reserve morning and evening to familiarise them with the sights and sounds of the game park in a lion breeding and reintroduction program. We watched a familiarisation video about pride behaviour and took part in a safety lecture before joining the walk. Theoretically the lions see us walking as part of their pride not as the full meal deal. The idea is they will eventually be released into the wild, at one stage we came upon a herd of impala (favourite lion food) and both lions charged off as they would in any David Attenborough documentary. The bizarre part was we were not watching the events unfold from our couch. They are without doubt beautiful creatures and we both felt honoured to have had the experience.
