April 17, 2007 Happy Birthday to Dakotah Dakotah and I were so looking forward to the party that the day seemed to go super slow. We got balloons hung and had the glasses and cups all ready, birthday card made and present wrapped. Then we waited until three o’clock. The first to arrive were Julie and her two sons. Then came Dorothy, her girls and Pastor Bonnani’s sons. Pastor Bonnani and his wife, Perseverance came a little bit later. There was a present exchange and chocolate cake eating and singing Happy birthday. Noma would have liked to be here but she has been at her Aunt’s house for the past week and a bit. She is having fun there with the bunch of kids who are staying there for the school holiday. I thought about ... read more

April 16, 2007 Masiye Teen Camp Camp Theme - The Storm is Over -Set your Future in Motion Thursday April 12, 2007 - The weekend started out with tragedy. Literally 2 minutes before we were to leave Dakotah slipped on the concrete out back and scraped up her leg, elbow, cheek and chin. There was some serious pain happening. I got out the first aid supplies and started to work cleaning out the gravel when the call came. They are on their way to pick us up. We had to decide whether we were going to call it off or not. I told them we would be waiting for them on the road then Kotah and I discussed. She made me decide. I knew she would regret missing out on this because of a moment of ... read more

Masiye camp April 14 The last two days at Masiye camp were so fun; I’m having a great time! Masiye camp is a camp for kids to learn about god and how he can help in life. I’m a group leader and the kids in my group are almost all older than me (sixteen is the oldest). Its very fun, but scary at times, the worst is the trust fall, imagine standing on a meter high stump and falling off, your group is supposed catch you, but you really need to trust them, otherwise, you’re doomed. Amazingly I found that that was worse than jumping off a cliff on a zip wire and gliding across a lake. The only hard part in that was jumping off the cliff on the zip wire. You just have to ... read more

April 11, 2007 Wednesday The visit out to Khayelihle was cancelled today so we got a few other things done. Khayelihlle (Kye-leet-lee) is a place where they help orphans and street children. They help them with rehabilitation, finding out why they are on the streets and try and get them to go back to their families. Some of them are orphans and that is why they are on the street. They are taken care of there. So this morning we were able to meet with Lovemore to finalize out trip to Livingstone and on to Namibia. We will be traveling through Hwange National Park and visiting Victoria Falls then on to Livingstone to catch the 16 hour bus ride to visit with the Knightly family in Namibia who are also from Kamloops, BC (our home town). ... read more

Things I didn’t get to April 7 Weather I guess global warming has its affects in Zimbabwe too. When we first came here it was the rainy season, but there was no rain. Now we are going into the dry winter, but its raining at least once a day! And this isn’t ordinary rain. It pours! Nice sun in the morning, sheets of rain in the afternoon. The real problem is there still isn’t enough water to fill the reservoir. Electricity In Kamloops, we almost never have power outages, but here, they have them daily. They’re not actually power outages they’re outages, they’re power cuts. It’s usually cut a t six (if they use the schedule). I’m still finding it fun but Jenni is sick of it. The only time that I don’t like it is ... read more

No fruit …Nope not much for fruit here. It’s expensive. Had an Avocado sandwich for lunch yesterday picked off the tree in the yard here. Shelly we love you too. So much and you know I would give you a giant hug. Deed, thanks for the comments. That is encouraging and Dakotah IS doing great. She went swimming yesterday in Jenni’s Brother’s pool. It was cold from all the rain. Uncle Barry and Aunt Bernadette we love you and yes a Canadian Tire would be nice. Angie, we love you too. Thanks everyone for your comments. Today we visited an aids care facility called Thembelihle. There were not very many patients there today, three men and five women. This facility is mostly funded by charitable organizations. The fees that families need to pay are $1000 Zim ... read more

April 7 and 8, 2007 Easter Sunday I helped Pastor T with some of the things he had to arrange on the computer again today. His boys were out busy as teenage boys are so Dakotah did some reading. Wandered around outside and then watched a movie. We are going to have to find her a new book pretty soon. She’ll be done reading Odyssey anytime now. Sunday we attended Revival Center for the Easter service this morning. The weather is a bit chilly but warming up in the afternoon. Oh ya, Pastor T arranged for a cell phone for us to borrow. So we can receive calls. E-mail me and I might give you the number if you want to speak voice to voice or text message to text message. Unfortunately, we didn’t bring our ... read more

April 6, 2007 Pastor T’s House http://www.christshope.org/ Today I spent most of the day teaching Pastor T about the computer. He doesn’t have much computer skills but learns fast. This man has organization in his head. Pastor T has been responsible for getting us to most of our work so far this trip, with help from Jenni who documents these things and helps to keeps him on track. Christ’s Hope International- Zimbabwe is the organization that I am volunteering with here in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe area mission is in it’s infancy right now. In Fact Dakotah and I are their first international volunteers. They have done many good things already including training of Choose to Wait teachers and home care but they have so much more to do. Pastor T is leaving for the UK to ... read more

Wednesday, April 4, 2007 Hope Fountain - Fountain of Hope. Today we went out to a rural area with a program from the Revival Center Church. In the area called Hope Fountain there are a large number of rural homes where grandmothers are taking care of several young grandchildren. The landscape is rolling with shrubs, or small trees throughout and every so often there is a small hut about 12 ft by 6 ft with a corrugated tin roof and the ground has been cleared around to dirt surrounding the hut. Some have a wire fence with laundry hanging on it; some have other round huts with thatch roofs on the same dirt patch. This site is about 45 minutes outside of Bulawayo town center. The roads are walked more than driven and there is people ... read more

Pastor T’s church April 1 Wow, pastor T’s church is so alive! Do you know how sometimes you have to have nothing to gain everything? Well, pastor T’s church is a living example of that. The church building is just a foundation that doesn’t even have the start of walls, let alone a roof. So, until they can build, and finish the building they are praying for no rain on Sunday. They are praying for no rain because what they are doing church in wouldn’t keep them dry. That’s because what they’re doing church in is almost like a tent, a wooden frame, and a tarp made out of corn sacks (that are ripping and tearing).they don’t even have a bathroom. But they do have spirit, and they’re going strong. Hope fountain and dinner march ... read more
