When I started telling my friends that i was heading to Zimbabwe, the first question I got was : "What!!! what are you going to do there???" and "what is there to do?". I was stunned that half my friends didnt know much about Zim.And then still asked me what is there to do. Haveing studiyng travel and tourism i told them it was for holiday and what all i had planned to do there. They all looked at me like i was crazy.
I believe that Zim has the most beautiful people, land and activities one can do in Africa.
As a student I realized why my friends didnt understand why I would go there. They all believe its for the older generation, corrupt and very dangerous. Well , i can prove them wrong with 2 of them . 1) Zimbabwe is not only for the Older generation but for younger adults that are seeking adventure and thrill. 2) The dangers of Zim will always be there, but I felt safe where ever i went.
But the corruption... hahaha need i say more then getting stopped by atleast 15 cops while traveling to my destination. They are around
every corner , hump and bump. Either asking for your drivers license or water.
I stayed a week in Zimbabwe and did plenty. my 1st destination was Bulawayo.
BULAWAYO A over night stop to catch up on sleep and meet up with some people that would travel with me.
HWANGE A 4 hour drive from Bulawayo, to our next destination Impondo Safari lodge. This was my home for the next week. We went on plenty of game drives, fishing trips and sundowners.
The one night we decided that we would go sit up in a elephant hide and wait to see if any animals would come to the water hole below us. As we started to get restless and wanted to leave, we heard noises like trees where breaking.
my heart was pounding and almost half way up my throut, we sat dead still and watched as a group of elephant walked toward the water hole that was right under us. There were 5 huge beast and a little baby under us drinking water and slashing themselves , taking a bath. This was unreal, I have never seen or experienced something so amazing.
Ill always remember that moment and that night.
The next day we headed to the Famous Victoria Falls. It was breath taking! I never thought that one can litarly have a shower there (joke) . but you do get socking wet.Thats what makes the experience so much more real and worth going for, the "rains/mist" from the falls are truly not the normal. Its a FAR but beautiful walk there. The view is spectacular and deffinatly the best. It was wierd to think that Zambia was walking distance as the border is right there and all you need is you passport and some money. TRULY AN AWESOME day. We headed to have some High Tea at the Famous Victoria Falls Hotel. Very posh and worth a visit, its a must. Our next stop was at Elephant hill lodge to have some sundowners and to relax after our far walk.
The day that I dreaded the most came sooner then I hoped it would. We were heading back to Victoria Falls to do some WHITE WATER RAFTING down the GREAT ZAMBEZI RIVER. Now I litarly signed my life away , right there and then. Id spear you all the
details and just get to the most important FACT.... IT WAS AMAZING!!!! ID DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. Id recommend it to anyone that is wanting adrenaline and a awesome time. We booked with Wild Horizon, we found that they were more trust worthy and enjoyed thier spirit. A 7 hour day filled witFh back to back action. From climbing down the Gauge ,rafting, and climbing back up that (insane) gauge. And having a ice cold beer and some lunch. We were finished after that. We headed to have some drinks at Victoria Falls Hotel and as tired as we were headed back home to have a early night. BEST time of my life.
There are some chilled places like 26th on Park to Have some good food and wine. And believe it or not but we did head out to see Zims Night life, wow. I didnt think it would be that fun, but i didnt want to leave Mosaics (club). A crazy and fun filled night out in Bulawayo.
