Wed 28th Up for 7.15 to go on a Bush walk to see the white rhinos. The reserve only has 2 left after 2 died of old age and 2 drowned in the river- Rhinos can't lift their heads above their shoulders so drown if fall into water. There was only 2 of us on the walk which was great. We got quite close to a giraffe as well as a dung beetle! We made a toothbrush out of a twig, saw the inside of a termite mound and learnt 2 cures for asthma- first drinking rhino pee or more favorable steaming a plant that smelt like heather. We finished the walk with a picnic by the river. I spent the afternoon by the pool and in the evening we all went for dinner at ... read more

Over the falls Africa » Zambia » Livingstone By TamsinMarch 27th 2007Tamsin Sebba Tue 27th We had a ferry crossing into Zambia. The crossing is the only place in the world where 4 countries meet. They are Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana. We luckily had our visa’s wavered but the police stopped us further up the road and they wanted some papers or some money but Frik sorted it out. We arrived at the waterfront campsite near Livingstone where the first part of our tour officially finished. Dani and I put up our tent and at 12 we watched a video of the activities we could do at Victoria Falls. Unfortunately the rafting is shut as the river is too full but after w... read more

on the way...getting there.... Well, we're leaving in 1.5 months. And there is so much to do. All this fundraising is a pain in the butt to organize, but it's fun to participate in and obviously nice getting some funds to help out with the trip payments. we have a couple of fundraisers coming up: 1) pub night at the springs pub in mission. josh martinez and the pissed off wild is playing. we're having door prizes, 50/50 tickets, raffles. one of the girls has a bunch of hook ups so she's arranged everything and apparently can sell all of the tickets. 2) a swing dance/silent auction on march 31 at the hatzic prairie hall. lots of dancing, snacks, door prizes, raffles, silent auctions. can buy alcohol. we also have a clothing drive coming up but ... read more

Fairly easy border crossing (another rare happy smiling face at customs!) brought us into Zambia! We camped the first night at Livingstone, only about half hour from the border. The place we stayed at was a basically a large lawn for tents surrounding this old palatial house that used to be the President of Zambia's house many years ago - it was built about 150 years ago! It had a swimming pool too that was great in the heat of the day. We went for a walk into town, about 2km, nothing much to report - just stocked up on more rusks (a tour fave of ours) at the supermarket! Quite crazy to see a well-stocked Supermarket after our recent viewing of a supposed supermarket in Zim! ;-) Most of our time spent in Zambia ... read more

Today, March 1st, is EWB Day. EWB chapter members all across Canada will be pulling off fantastic feats of outreach to promote this year's EWB Day theme: Be Change. Please go to playyourpart.ca to show your support and learn more about it. In commemoration of EWB Day, here is a short story about beer and integration in Zambia. "Chibuku Shake Shake: The One that Gives You Respect." That's the tagline to my favourite TV commercial. It's for a locally brewed Zambian beer. The premise of the commercial is that real men drink Shake Shake. Men of respect drink Shake Shake. And even if you're not a man of respect, pretend that you are - by drinking Shake Shake. I must admit it, though - it took me almost eight months to try the local brew. Shameful ... read more

Hello All Welcome to my adrenaline page! I know it has been forever since I have written a blog and I should really be filling you in on my life for the past 6 months....and I will I promise...just thought I should close this chapter first! To be honest I thought I had already published this entry...ooops! So I decided that January was my month of adrenaline....or at least it was the start of my adrenalinejunkiness! I am actually wishing that I could have gone skydiving as well but the money situation didn't’t quite allow for it. Oh well another time! This was a good way to start out the New Year! First of all I decided that it would be a good idea to go bungee jumping. The thing is that there really is no ... read more

From Sarah: Candice and I had our all time horrific spider saga! It was the worst yet, it took us 3 rounds before it finally succumbed! When we got to the house the second night, there was a gargantuan sized spider, and that was only half of it, was poking its legs out, just taunting us. NOT COOL. So, Todd, Candice and I all tried to DOOM it and kill it, unfortunately for Candice it escaped. So we were getting ready to go to the hospital worship, when it decided to reapper, in her closet. I tried to smash it with the shoe a couple of times, but it would have none of it. It would just poke its beady eyes out and some of the legs. We decided we didn't have time for the games ... read more
